Vettel blew his race when he went wide and let Button past. He may be quick, but I think that his nerve might desert him sometimes, as we saw on Sunday. Not WDC material quite yet. |

I don't think he's over-rated. I'm fairly certain he'll become a WDC in not too many years, car permitting of course. True, he's had a couple of iffy races, but then the current WDC has had plenty of those too. They're both young, talented and fast, but not refined into the finished article due to a relavtive lack of experience. It will come, and they will kick arse.... |

Schumi, Alonso, Hamilton... all greats make some mistakes in their early years. After a brilliant 2008 Vettel is now going through his difficult spell. But give him time and he will come good again. |

winning a race and a couple of podiums counts as a "difficult spell" ??? I think he's brilliant. 99% of the time I really like him; but he was stupidly petulant after Turkey. |

He was really unlucky in Australia,Malaysia and Barcalona, otherwise we could have seen him quite easily second in the title race. |

I don't ever buy the "unlucky" argument. It didn't wash for Kimi in the early 2000s and it won't wash for Vettel now - in F1 you make your own luck. My assessment is the same as Norbert's - Seb is an excellent raw talent and I would be surprised if he doesn't win the title eventually, but he's not at his peak yet. |

I don't agree that he blew his race with that mistake, after the final round of stops he was over 20 seconds behind Button, Red Bull simply didn't have the pace.
Nobody has said he is finished in F1... did you even read the opening post? |

It's true that Vettel's car was slower than Button's. However, at one point, Vettel caught and had to pass Button but couldn't, despite having a faster car. Lap one, Vettel only had to block Button to frustrate him and he didn't keep him behind. That didn't help at all. |

No but when he came in for his first stop he was 5 seconds behind Button despite being lighter. Given this fact we can assume that Button would have stayed in Vettel's wheeltracks, so ultimately it cost him 5 seconds which is not even close to changing the final result. |

Your topic title is misleading. Vettel is not overated. He is AS YOU SAY not WDC material yet. He will be one day soon. Get this seasons experience behind him, then let's judge. |

There's a question mark after the word overrated. There was a lot of hype surrounding him last year, even before Monza and the year before, when he hopped into the BMW and did so well. Much heralding of the new Schumi, rumours of him being headhunted by Ferrari, Mclaren, etc. Some of the shine has worn off this year, despite his very good results, he's made mistakes that will prevent him from challenging for the World Title, so he's not quite the Wunderkind that he was being made out to be last year. That's all. |

He's made a few mistakes, but I bet he's still being headhunted by the top teams. He's quick, really talented. I wouldn't come close to calling him the next Shumi because that's just unfair, but he will be a future superstar IMO. |
