Vettel has impressed more people in 34 races than Webber has in 120 races... that means nothing other than to say more people think Vettel will be a WDC on day than think Webber will be... it does not mean they are right.

Time will tell.

Gilles Villeneuve at Spain, THAT was supreme defenisve driving.

Yes, but he was driving a Ferrari, so that meant he was actually cheating.....

When Webber finished ahead of Seb in Barcelona , James Allen said you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife as the favoured son was beaten by his teammate ...

I already made this point in another thread and no one seemed to know what I was going on about. I wasn't aware that a fuel corrected Webber would have qualified ahead of Vettel.

Personally I think RBR would have to chain Webber's car to wild horses (possibly a Ferrari as they are much slower) to hold him back. He's not a journey man, he's underated.

true... but he is not the first decent driver to be overlooked and if F1 has a future after tomorrow he won't be the last.

Of course.

It's a pity to a degree, but it's F1, the car is a huge part of the series and there's always going to be some lucky git in the right place at the right time.

However, I don't think I've ever seen an undeserving F1 champ. It does take something to be recognized as having talent or to work your way up, it's also easy to go unnoticed in a poor car or for a poor car to wreck your chances.

I think it's been easy to spot the undeserved F1 drivers. Currently I class Piquet as one of those but I don't know his situation at Renault and Alonso may have him by the balls if you know what I mean. But we've had Ide and Alex Yoong in recent times barely able to qualify. But then we've had people like Justin Wilson who IMO deserves an F1 drive.

Button came in for a lot of criticism by the forums over the last two years quite fairly based on his performances, but what I found interesting was a comment by Brawn. He's obviously now very impressed by JB, but he did say that despite the team considering JB an execllent driver, he saw little of that last year.

Really? You got a quote of that anywhere? Sorry for being sceptical but it goes against everything I've heard Brawn say this year or last.

Mike Gascoyne never worked for Williams

I was so sure he did I had to go and check him out.

You're absolutely right; he didn't ever work for Williams.

I've been labouring under a misapprehension for ages (like years) or I'm getting him confused with somebody else, though I can't think who that might be. Or both.

Geoff Willis - he's the guy I was thinking of. Sorry 'bout that.
