Hope it works out. I like things as they are, aside from the current domination of Brawn. Also, am I correct in reading into the following:
Does this mean that refuelling and tyre blankets would remain under the proposed agreement? Please, God, let it be so.

See, what was everyone panicking about? A breakaway or wholesale withdrawals were in nobodies interest. |

As far as I see it, FOTA have all signed up as they can do nothing if they are not involved next year... so they all sign up (so why suspend Williams who I assume have now been reinstated) However if the FOTA statement they clearly say they are signing up because today is the deadline but they are also signing up on the understanding they will race in 2010 under 2009 regulations.. The FIA have not agreed to this AFAIK, so this is not done and dusted just yet |

FOTA statement. Note, the budget cap in not mentioned at all. All FOTA Teams have today submitted conditional entries for the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship. FOTA confirms all its Members' long-term commitment to be involved in the FIA Formula One World Championship and has unanimously agreed further and significant actions to substantially reduce the costs of competing in the Championship in the next three years, creating a mechanism that will preserve the technological competition and the sporting challenge and, at the same time, facilitate the entry in the F1 Championship for new Teams. These measures are in line with what has been already decided in 2009 within FOTA, achieving important savings on engines and gearboxes. All FOTA teams have entered the 2010 championship on the basis that: 1) The Concorde Agreement is signed by all parties before 12th June 2009, after which all FOTA teams will commit to competing in Formula One until 2012. The renewal of the Concorde Agreement will provide security for the future of the sport by binding all parties in a formal relationship that will ensure stability via sound governance. 2) The basis of the 2010 regulations will be the current 2009 regulations, amended in accordance with proposals that FOTA has submitted to the FIA. All FOTA teams' entries for the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship have been submitted today on the understanding that (a) all FOTA teams will be permitted to compete during the 2010 Formula One Season on an identical regulatory basis and (b) that they may only be accepted as a whole. All FOTA teams now look forward with optimism to collaborating proactively and productively with the FIA, with a view to establishing a solid foundation on which the future of a healthy and successful Formula One can be built, providing lasting stability and sound governance. 29 May 2009 http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_new...es_art_id=38037 |

Clear as mud (as usual). From what I can glean, there will be one set of rules, not two, so there cannot be a 40mil budget cap. I wonder how the 'new' teams who have entered for 2010 feel about this? They'd have entered believing that there'd be this insane two tier system and that they'd be competing on equal terms with Ferrari and co on a budget of 40mil. They must be sharpening their lawyers even as we speak... |

A good move by FOTA. The only leverage Max had on them was this deadline. Now they have signed with conditions he has nothing to bargain with. They are running the show as they can still pull out but he cannot fill their places with budget teams. |

Unless of course the FIA (in their wisdom) allocate grid spots to the 'new teams first and the teams they know will race, like Williams, Force India and Brawn... and McLaren will do the FIA's bidding as they promised to do

The grid spots are negotiable. But Max is very likely to play some games. His ego won't allow him to accept things as they are. |
