Hope so.

I’m all for breakaway series

<devil>

I'm not for a breakaway series, I just want F1 to stop being run by morons who care more about politics and finance than the racing.

What Formula 1 needs is a Tony George type figure to come in and clear out the rubbish

His name is Luca!

Well, the only way that's going to happen is if there's a breakaway series. The fans will follow the teams, regardless of what the series is called.

Not if they can't watch it because it's not on a decent TV channel, they won't. And anyway, your assertion refers only to hardcore fans like us, of whom there are few. The vast majority of casual viewers will continue to watch whatever's easiest to access, which will continue to be F1.

A breakaway series will only damage the credibility of the sport, what FOTA needs to do is get the FIA back to what they're supposed to be doing (overseeing the safety side of the sport and letting an independent commission make the rules) and find someone sympathetic to buy up the commercial rights once CVC collapses. (It will happen).

This actually looks like a necessary move on all parts. If Williams were legally obligated to enter F1 then so be it. Also the FOTA HAS to show a unified front against Max, if a team breaks ranks the others cannot just let it go unnoticed. I think this is posturing more than anything, but they had to do it.

That statement is exactly the truth.

Williams had to enter or be sued for breach of contract by the FOM.
Williams signed the concord agreement in January in return for a prepayment of royalties owed to them for 2006/7 season.

For Max and Bernie it makes no difference at all. They were both well aware that Williams had to sign up by the deadline, or be sued.

Is it really, Williams have been suspended from the Formula One Teams Association because they want to race?

To be accurate, Williams have been suspended because they are skint cheapskates who want to sign up to a £40M cal because they aren't worth the sponsorship fees and would prefer to be dictated to by Mad Max and be limited to (probably) more than they can afford in order that the competition who can afford more are crippled, enabling them to do better than their usual trick of sending Rosberg out on fumes to catch headlines....

<thumbsup>

Or maybe the fact they are a racing company - whose sole objectve is to race, not sell cars

It is no big deal either with the other teams or with Williams... it makes sense for FOTA to 'suspend' Williams while discussions with the FIA are ongoing...

Williams are still members of FOTA and if it goes pear shape there will be no FOTA to be suspended from anyway... if FOTA get their way Williams will be reinstated.
