Interesting article in The UK Times today about how Jenson could theoretically be champion by the end of Angust (yes please!) and how this would leave 4 "dead rubber" races at the end of the season -spectators and sponsors would apparently lose interest.

I thought this sentence might provide food for thought:
"In the past a runaway leader has attracted the attention of the FIA which has stepped in to find something illegal on a hot car."

Anyone think of an example? Is it a possibility or is the Brawn "fairytale" a big enough draw as it is?

I hope it turn out like a few year aga now when Franky Detory won every race on the card

I know that can not be done this year but most people be with him to try and beat the great MS record or wins in a year or points score

5/6 so far with 6 podiums are a clear indication that it is a distinct possibility...

I'm not convinced about a clean sweep of the rest of the season. The opposition have closed very quickly. They (Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren) are very close, although not yet equal. Yet. Unless someone puts pen to paper for a sponosr deal, Ross will struggle to develop this year's car, never mind next year. If he gets a good deal, well, it'll be game on. I still think that while the team and drivers are set fair for very high finishes, if not the titles, they'll find that it's harder and harder to win as the season goes on. However, the stunning start has given them a comfortable cushion, so the titles are really theirs to lose.

Maybe Button wishes the medal system was brought in now - a few more wins and game over!

you know what? That might be the one thing that kills the medals idea off properly.

Imagine JB wins 2 of the next 4 races, but the other winners are, say, Kimi & Vettel

That would mean JB has 7, Vettel 2 and Kimi 1 - with (I think) only 8 races left to go. Unless Vettel wins all the rest then it's very unlikely that JB will be beaten, and if Massa wins the next one, or Webber, or Trulli or someone new, then it's possible that the title will be won with 6 races to go!

Do you think Bernie would be happy with that situation??????

Unless JB has a lot of DNFs, the season is already just a long list of dead rubbers.

Roll on 2010.

This season was dead rubber as soon as the other teams ignored Ross Brawn when he pointed out the Double Diffuser Loophole and further entrenched when the FIA dithered when the first DD cars were launched.

Dead rubber. See a lot of those in the woods outside my house <sick>

To be fair, I'm not that bothered about the WDC this year as Lewis has no chance of retaining it. Don't get me wrong, good luck to JB and Brawn (not that they need it) but I am looking forward continued good racing. I got used to this situation in the Mansell/Ferrari years, and that cetainly didn't put me off F1.

The most recent examples are the Renault mass dampers in 2006 and Michelin's tyres in 2003. Both were banned in controversial circumstances and both influenced the outcome of the championship....although thankfully in 2006 the right man still won.
