because the current economic climate doesn't effect them does it because they are bank rolled by us the extra strain put on the economy by school closures will not affect them at all it will affect the working man, the men that are paying their wages that's why they are elite, they aren't happy with 200 holiday days a year, they need even more try living off 21 days a year and they'd roll over and die, and i'm sure the thought of 12 hour days would also kill them |

There's no snow here any more. Not that it affected me as I only live 300 yards from my office, and I can work from home and do 99% of everything without ever having to come into the office. In fact, given a decent Wi-Fi connection I could work from the pub. Now there's an idea....

Hey, come on, it isn't the teacher's fault. It's the stupid buggers at the authority level who decided that three snowflakes were enough that the schools should shut for half the week, despite the fact that mummy grings Jonny 400 yards to school in her Chelsea tractor that can quite easily cope with a bit of bad weather. As for the 12 hour day, an awful lot of teachers probably work at least that when they have to take work home for marking. Agreed, the vast amount of holidays will go some way to addressing that, and let's face it, there's little point in going to school when all the kids are on holiday. My grip is that school summer holidays are so long. Why on Earth do you need six weeks in one go? That's a month and a half of peope having to get babysitters, dumps the kids on the grandparents, time off of work etc. Why not spread those six weeks between the other half-term and end of term breaks? The worst part is that it makes towns and resorts almost unbearable for the whole of summer due to hoards of screaming brats invading the place! |

Ditto. After Monday's fun and games, I decided to remain home (although the main road into town being "treacherous" and many buses not running this morning, seems like I made the right choice!) Plus, when do I get the chance to work from home and watch Flyers hockey at the same time?? |

If the teachers really cared about Education they would be slamming the LEA’s decisions to close schools, but they aren’t, they are happy just to sit at home should our place shut down for a week i'd be banging down the door because if we don't get the work done in time then we'll lose our contract and i'll lose my job that's the reality of it |

Yes, but, if the authority has shut the school there's bugger all point in going there! The school, and the shops, may well be easy to access, but if the teachers have been instructed by a higher authority to close the school, what are they supposed to do? Go there and teach invisible kids? as I've said before, it's the LEAs being the arses, not the teachers (apart from PE teachers of course*). And they're only acting in self defence against litigation. Blame the bloody lawyers!!! *In Red Dwarf, Holly, the ship's computer, equated his IQ of 6000 to that of 6000 PE teachers, or 12000 carpark attendants. |

I wouldn't either! However, I only get 20 days a year, and managed to be left with 6 this year, and five from the previous one carried over that I never managed to use either! |

i would! knowing that the work i would miss would still need doing but the deadline would still be the same if it's not done to the deadline then we lose the contract and all of us that aren't protected by TUPE would be out of a job we have the situation where I work, the ex council guys jobs are protected and they got TUPE'd accross on their massive pensions and holiday entitlements, ok they get crap pay rises and lower money but their massive benefits more then make up for that obviously, they haven't been off work but should we close for snow and sit on our asses I would be worrying all day whearas they would not be bothered because the Local Government and beyond that, the Government protect their jobs they are also the worst workers we have, not sure it's coincidence or not |
