The trouble is that if little Jonny gets a snowball thrown at him, the parents will sue the school for not keeping the kids under control. I don't recall having a day off for snow when it snowed properly in winter, even here dahn sarf. Lack of council spending again, although they went mad in the last few weeks with millions of road signs and a new 50 limit on a road that's not been any different for all my 30 years. Makes you wonder how it became dangerous overnight.....

What a laugh

Up here in’t north of England we had it all prepared, the M62 was ploughed last night and this morning

Most of the buses and trains are running and despite up to 8 inches of snow in places

Of a `75 men work force here there is only one person that isn’t here yet despite all this the lazy teachers are about the only people who can’t get out of bed and loads of schools are closed, which is pathetic seen as everyone else in the county has made it to work without a problem

Whereas darn sarth where people wear gloves in Autumn all the London buses are cancelled and the tube has had to stop, it’s chaos on the M25, M20 and M11

Pretty much business as normal up here, we are used to this

getting cheerier in your old age stradders ;)

the school I work in is closed cos the buses wont run - no point in being there if the kids arent, and my kids school is closed cos, as usual, a hint of snowflake, and the boiler packs up!

still, the mini Pebs' and I have had great fun building a very drunk looking snowman!

sorry, manners - afternoon all - I also got the day off work :D

That’s what I was saying, can’t believe how many schools are closed

Lazy teachers

If the rest of us can get to work I’m sure the teachers can, I can see across the depot to the Council offices and even they are here

If the Council manage to get here then there is no excuse for anyone else

That's what jumpers are for. I always find it amusing how people (usually girlies) complain bitterly about the 'cold' when they are wearing only a flimsy shirt/tshirt/top.... a jumper costs a few quid, heating costs a fortune, and common sense is free....

I actually agree - apart from the common sense and girlies bit <think> - but it comes back to your comment about suing and all that I guess - the school dont want to find themselves at fault and some sort of malpractice suit if they keep kids in a cold environment I guess... same as my school closing cos the buses wont run - we cant actually control that!

that said, I am terrible for the flimsy top / have the heating on thing <blush>

Sadly, the snow here isn't settling, but is still falling. The landlord kindly waived any fees for the last couple of Genuises on the slightly optimistic grounds that if he was lucky we'd get snowed in and have to buy several more. Sadly, we weren't, so I'll be going back later to try again.....

The snow has been intermittent here in Edinburgh, right now it's coming down quite hard. Trouble is it's comparatively warm on the ground, so it's all melting as soon as it gets down there. Hopefully we'll all get snowed in at the pub tonight, although the prospect of free beer is remote to say the least....

Free beer in Edinburgh???

<roflmao> <roflmao>

Did you hear about the Scotsman who dropped a penny? As he bent down to pick it up, it hit him on the back of the head!

Copper wire was invented by two Scotsmen fighting over a penny.

Most Scotsmen wake themselves up in the middle of the night to check for lost sleep....

Well, quite! <roflmao>

Also the fact that it's only £1 a pint to start with, means that any further reductions are somewhat unlikely....:P

so Coors Light it was

probably the most tasteless drink i've ever had and after about 5-6 pints it was like the never ending p*ss stops

Most pubs round here will charge around £2.80-£3.10 for a pint, but a few of the more student-oriented ones will have promotional nights like £1 a pint on Monday....so Monday night down the pub it is!
