Sounds painful :s

# To hit heavily and repeatedly with violent blows: assail, assault, baste, batter, beat, belabor, buffet, drub, hammer, pound, pummel, smash, thrash, thresh. Slang clobber.

Idioms: rain blows on.

says it all

Where's the option for both.....?

<devil>

Or the option for neither? <whistle>

That option doesn't exist due to the fact that Lewis didn't need to leave the track....

<thumbsup>

True, he could have run kimi off the road, taken them both out and completely avoided any grounds for a penalty (because it would have allowed Massa to win? <roflmao> ).

Of course, we complain that F1 isn't exciting, yet when one driver comes along who is exciting and is prepared to take risks, he gets slated. Now that's irony for you. <roflmao>

Taking risks is fine. Taking the p**s is another thing, and Hamilton wasn't far off it on Sunday.

Taking the p*** is a rather strong way of putting it. May be "marginal incident" would be more accurate, because interpretation of the events is difficult because there were may mitigating factors involved. Hence why I feel there should be no penalty, because the situation is impossible to judge.

Late to this party, but the 25 second penalty would be easier on Lewis than the 10 position drop would be. The 25 seconds only cost him 2 places and 4 points (6 total counting Massa promotion) where as we saw from Malaysia alone where Lewis got a 5 position penalty he didn't recover extremely well.

Given the choice I'd take the 25 seconds, but I don't think the FIA will be so accommodating to let McLaren make that decision.

I was thinking the same thing... it is no guarantee starting 10th that Lewis would get a podium finish and so would in effect risk loosing more points...

Which is why I said 'not far from....

<thumbsup>

I agree that the incident wasn't exactly treason, but it wasn't entirely innocent either.

To my knowledge, every "chicane-cutting" incident that has been punished, has been punished with a drive-through penalty (or a stop/go penalty, before drive-throughs were invented). After the race, the replacement for a drive-through penalty (as specified in the regulations) is a 25-second time penalty. By giving Hamilton a 25-second penalty, the stewards were only being consistent. <blink>
