sorry for that rant but I just cannot believe a 3 time world champion who knows infinantly more about formula 1 then any of us arm chair plebs and some ill informed tossers in Spa can have no standing in the sport!

i find that a disrespectful, appaling and shameful comment

and i'm amazed at how far the anti-hamiltonites will go...

The problem is that he's on the outside of the sport TODAY. The fact he was a champion years ago makes no difference since 1) the rules have changed since he raced and 2) he not been present or a part of racing this year where the rules are set, clarified, discussed with the drivers and team.

He has his opinion but they are based upon racing two decades ago, not now.

As for the stewards, they are a LOT more informed about the rules and the sport than you, me or Lauda are. Just because someone raced and won a lot doesn't mean they have to know what's going on in the sport.

It was not that long ago when Lauda was team principal at Jaguar....

So I am sure he still has a sound knowledge of modern day F1 regardless of whether you agree with him or not...

TBH... he was never the same after losing control of his airline...

Of course the truth is that no one, former champion or team principle, proverbial man in the street, even you or I can hold a truly unbiased view.

It's funny... we are all right and wrong at the same time.

he has no standing in sport?

A THREE TIME WORLD CHAMPION HAS NO STANDING IN THE SPORT!!!! oh for god sake, what PLANET ARE WE ON!!!!!!!!!!

the guy won two WDC's for FERRARI, FERRARI, FERRARI, FERRARI and sat on the FERRARI, FERRARI, FERRARI, FERARRI pit wall for years!!!!!!!!!!!

Next time Pele want's to make a comment about the quality of football, i'll just ignore him, he was shit anyway

what a load of stinking tripe!

So does Schumi have a standing in the sport? 7 TIMES champ. Do you agree with everythyign he says?

Well, schumi's current position in the ferrari team might make any comment by him seem like a conflict of interest, bearing in mind that his protoge stands to gain from the penalty being up held.

Schumacher would know better than to comment on these events... if only other former WDC's knew as much... <whistle>

Are you questioning a man's right to free speech? Surely that is against to operation of a democratic society, unless, of course, you disapprove of democracy. ;)

I am suggesting that if schumi was to comment, his motivation would be open to question, where as a man who is not connected with the situation in anyway, such as Lauda, would be less suceptible to suggestions of bias.

You miss the point. I was talking generally - basically demonstrating that the initial poster's assumptiosn that if Lauda says it then it must be correct are rubbish.

I remeber Luada saying a lot of stuff recently - including anti Hamilton stuff I think.

Drivers opinions, ex or otherwise are not as important as thje stewards - whose job it is to decide.

You read what is written and yet you totally ignore what was said...

No one is saying that former F1 Champions should not give their opinion....

I was saying that SOME former F1 Champions know when NOT to give their opinion....

there is a difference <doh>

I am sure every living ex Champion will have an opinion to make of this )and many other incidents), but for the most part they don't do it in the press...

It is always the same vocal (attention seeking maybe) few that do.

erm, jim

that relationship must have been repaired when he appeared on the ferrari pit wall throughout the late 80's and well into the 90's..............

Maybe because Enzo was dead by then.... <huh>
