Apparently, the complaint was lodged by Charlie Whiting on the last lap! |

Since when does 'report' mean 'complaint'? |

I agree with your clarification. But this does muddy the waters further, as Macca have claimed that Whiting ok'ed the action that Hamilton took. |

I think the problem for Lewis is that he appeared to accelerate across the corner when he was off track. He then let Kimi go past, but tucked up in his slip stream. If he had stayed on track round that corner, he would not have been so close to Kimi and and so he gained an unfair advantage by skipping the corner in terms of readying himself for the overtake into the next corner. He may have let Kimi go back in front of him, but he had still taken an track positional advantage by skipping the corner. He should have backed off and then followed Kimi through turn one and made a move later on in the lap. Give some credit to the stewards. They have the data and are not going to make a decision that they cannot justify. It doesn't matter which driver it was, I would support the stewards for enforcing the rules. "Winning" a race by breaking the rules is not winning! Lewis slipped up at the start of the second lap. He fell off the track several times in the last couple of laps but was luckier than Kimi in that he didn't damage his car. It was exciting stuff, but it wasn't great driving by Kimi or Lewis. People took the mick out of Massa for his performance in the UK, but yesterday it appears he was the only Macca/Ferrari driver to keep the car on the track. For staying within the rules and for keeping the car on the road and for keeping his head when others were losing theirs, I think Massa was the driver of the day. |

Kimi and Lewis were fighting for victory, however, so they obviously had to push harder than Massa, who admitted after the race to driving "like a grandmother" in order to stay on the road. Massa had been slower than Kimi and Lewis throughout the race which is why he wasn't even in contention to win until Lewis got his penalty. |

Well, yes and no. Don't forget that Ron said they asked Charlie for his opinion, and also said that his opinion wasn't the final word on the matter. Ron knew that Charlie's advice wasn't binding, and in fact I seem to recall other incidents in the past where a team has asked Charlie about something and the stewards have deemed otherwise. As race director, Charlie has to report all incidents to the stewards for them to deliberate on. For all we know, Charlie may well have thought that while the move gave an advantage, that Lewis gave it back and overall there was no foul. However, he is not the stewarding team and his is not the decision. |

I agree they were fighting for victory and I know Massa said he drove like a grandmother. But in the end, Massa was never very far behind Kimi and Lewis in the race (despite having some engine concerns after the recent Ferrari races and having to have some changes made to the electrics in parc ferme) and he didn't make the same mistakes that Kimi and Lewis made (especially the slip that Lewis made at the start of the second lap in which he was very lucky that no one clobbered him). Lewis and Kimi fought for the win and they both lost: Kimi by hitting the wall and Lewis by breaching the rules. So they fought and lost, whereas Massa fought a different kind of measured race and he won. Given Massa's previous performances in the wet, he did the mature thing and brought the car home to get the points. I think that's the kind of attitude that will get him the WDC. He didn't win the race from luck. He won the race because he was the first driver to cross the line within the rules of the sport. Fair dues to Massa. It was exciting for Lewis to fight Kimi for the race win, but in the circumstances it was not the most sensible thing to do as he could easily have hit a wall like Kimi and ended up with nothing. |

Why blame Ron? He wasn't driving. However, it appeared that Kimi had been taking lessons from Anthony Hamilton.....
