Hamilton gained momentum by cutting the chicane to create the passing oppurtunity. A penalty was right although im surprised it was handed out as Kimi retired.

you can't put a price on comedy!

or the truth eh!

indeed.

So, the momentum Lewis gained? Where did it go when Kimi retook the position.

The laws of physics.

Lewis exits corner first. In front of Kimi. Momentum gained.

Kimi passes lewis. Momentum lost.

Would not be possible for Kimi to pass had Lewis maintained the momentum.

agreed

and what about the momentum that Kimi gained on Hamilton by using all that run off later in the lap

surely then a penalty for Kimi must be coming as well??

as he drives a red car I doubt it however

It happened with Alonso and Klien a few years ago, its pretty daft but rules are rules.

or rather the momentum he didn't lose...? He certainly didn't pass anyone using it....

it is sily.

personally, i dont think either of them deserved a penalty.

Even Heikkis penalty was harsh.

How many times the year hs that been said about decisions against Macca.

Still, well done to Lewis. Everybody except the most ardent Ferrari fan and the FIA will see the Spa GP as your victory.

I think Hammy will win this year. And I hope after he does he moves to a more deserving form of motor sport or something less contrived like Wrestling

he did, he overtook Hamilton into the next corner and then dropped it!!!

but he still got past!

so surely if they are going to be consistent then it's a penalty!

but like I said, red car...

Well, perhaps Kimi spun to let Hamilton back past?

Even Heikkis penalty was harsh.

Well, I don't. It was a careless move and left Webber pointing the wrong way, lucky to to be wiped out. I suspect Heikki won't be invited to throw a shrimp on Mark's barbie for a while.....

Good job DC isn't in the Mac any more or he'd have about a dozen drivethroughs for that this year!

How can you back off to let someone pass and create momentum at the same time?

I can see it now:

Next week in Monza, McLaren will be penalised again, this time for serving a red wine instead of white with their fish course during their sponsor's corporate dinner.

Then in Singapore, McLaren will be punished again after Hamilton breaks down on the final lap, and fails to display a warning triangle.

At Fuji, McLaren will try to confuse the stewards by arriving in their all new red livery. This will fail, and they will get penalised again for breaking FIA Rule 172.6: "Thou shalt not create a car in the likeness of Ferrari"

In Shanghai, Hamilton recieves another penalty for refusing to talk to the Italian media on the starting grid.

In Brazil, Hamilton wins fair and square, but it doesn't matter, since Massa still wins the WDC by 11,324,248 points (after recieving a huge point bonus from the FIA for good behaviour)

Well, serving the wrong wine with a main course is a major sin to those who actually like the god-awful stuff!!

It's stupid, you CAN'T GAIN momentum over some one who is passing you.

Foot off Gas or Foot on brake takes any momentum gained, he gave the place back well early and thus had plenty of time to attack at a known overtaking spot, one of the very few in F1.

Perhaps the implication is that somehow he still managed to put himself in an advantageous position when it cam to getting to said well know spot?

Still seems tenuous to me.....
