Hamilton will get away with the "pass" on Kimi, and he should. He actually got fully behind Raikkonen before re-passing, so there should be no real cause to penalise him.

I agree. Hamilton should not be penalised for what happened today.

Just to spoil things, for me this was one of the best races I've watched in ages.

Plenty of over taking within the race, some good mini battles, nice to see Bourdais doing well (pity about the last lap) and I thought the battle between Kimi and Lewis right from the start was great.

Nice move by kimi to muscle his way to the front but he didn't pull away and we were left with a lot of tension as the race edded.

The rain in the last laps was perfectly timed and brought out some interesting changes. Who'd have thought that it was worth risking a tyre change for a last lap, it made little difference to Alonso who pitted from 3rd but came back to 3rd.

I'd say the tussle between kimi and lewis at the end was racing and 50/50.

Lewis was a longside, and Kimi left no room forcing lewis off, Lewis did back off completely and I think simply surprised Kimi by attacking so soon. Everything after than was rain tinged IMO.

I hope there is no penalty. It would benefit Massa if there was but it would also make a mockery of the sport. Although I felt Hamilton gained a slight advantage it is all rather irrelevant as the stuff that followed that incident had a much greater bearing on the actual result.

The race itself was the best of the season. It had been a 6/10 after around 35 laps but the stuff that happened in the last 10 brought it up to at least a 9. I feel a bit sorry for Raikkonen after a great race, but it was his error so he can't really complain. On the last lap I was scared sh*tless that Massa was going to drop it, thankfully he brought it home very solidly. I couldn't understand why they didn't bring him in for inters either, after all his 2nd place ws all but assured. Anyway, the championship is set up nicely and Felipe will have the whole backing of Ferrari now Raikkonen is effectively out of the title race.

One last note - I was recording the race and the tape reached the end just before the good stuff started, so I'm going to have to get the highlights later. <fu>

yeah, I hope the stewards don't interfere too!

Massa got away with his seemingly 'innocent' pit stop release scott-free and seeing as Hamilton allowed Raikkonnen back in the lead immediately too, there should be no penalty..

Let's see shall we....

Lewis did get an advantage tho and i can see why they are looking at the incident but it would be harsh to take the win from Lewis.

But this is the FIA

Depends on how you look at it and interpret the rules.

If Lewis gives back the accidentally gained place then he has done everything asked of in the rules.

Do the rules ask for anything more.

If a driver with no competitors around accidentally misses a corner or apex, do they have to slow down and allow the car behind to overtake?

The rules specify that if a driver gains an advantage this is illegal. What they have to decide is did Hamilton pass Kimi down into La Source as a result of cutting the busstop (i.e. did the time he saved doing that enable him to get past at La Source or not?) Obviously, if Hamilton had stayed on the road he would have been further behind exiting the corner and they may decide this would have stopped him from making the pass at LS. But in my opinion it would be far to speculative to penalise Lewis for this, especially since it was largely irrelevant compared to what happened after that. Ferrari got away in Valencia by arguing that Sutil did not lose anything as a result and it seems to me that no-one lost or gained anything (net) as a result of this.

No word yet, but according to formula1.com, it is (as we all suspected) the incident at the chicane.

"The manoeuvre between Hamilton and Raikkonen at the chicane on lap 42 is currently under investigation by the race stewards."

Wouldn't it be ironic if you lot are all up to shoot the FIA for anti-McLaren bias if they're actually discussing if Kimi was being a bit naughty in shoving Hamilton across the kerb?

<roflmao>

In any case, it's the race stewards investgating, not the FIA......

I appreciate where you are coming from, and I don't argue this point as a Lewis fan. I enjoyed the race, was chuffed with Kimi's purpose for once. He brought what could have been a dull race to life.

The point is I don't think the rules can easily cover what kind of advantage might be gained on subsequent corners, only on the corner in question and as Lewis did actually back of to comply with the rules it would be really difficult to press the point of further advantages gained unless you quantify a 'back off' distance or time and then when can the driver start to attack/race again? Does he have to wait another lap?

I also agree with LH that kimi muscled Lewis off, when it was clearly a 50/50 corner, though I'd have to see it again. Not saying Kimi did anything wrong there though.
