Donington Park has revealed its plan for redeveloping the circuit and facilities ready to host the 2010 British Grand Prix.

The track requiries significant upgrades to meet modern Formula One standards, and today its owners submitted their initial plans to North West Leicestershire District Council for approval.

From http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/70322

Great news for the future of the British GP, let's see if Donington, unlike Silverstone, can get beyond the "planning" stage. I'm sure the nay-sayers will have something to say - I suppose the idea of a British circuit that is prepared to invest in F1-standard facilities is unfamiliar.

Anyone actually wanting to be able to see the plan rather than squint as the abysmal thumbail AutoSpout have provided should look at this:

Donington is having problems. There have been complaints from East Midlands Airport:

from reading 606 it been pointed out that this is version 3 or 4 and that now they need to get planning from more than one council because there new design for the track goes onto the area that in the planning zone of the other council

they already about 2 months behind already and the credit crunch

question: does any F1 track make any money just from the F1 race weekend or does it all go to the sort one and the track looses big time ~ if so I see it even harder to get the money to build this upgrade

The venues get part of the money from ticket sales. All the rest goes to Bernie. What Donington will have to hope for is that their improvements attract other, paying series to the circuit.

It's funny how these complaints have only surfaced after the plans were revealed. Perhaps people are just stirring the pot?

What I like from one of these articles was the line "Silverstone continues to hope that Donington will be unable to meet its commitments for an F1 race and will have to turn to the Northamptonshire circuit for help."

<doh>

Rather than "Silverstone continues to develop the circuit's facilities hoping to win back the Grand Prix from Donington, or be able to host it should the track not be ready in time".

<hitwall>

Still doing the ostrich impression at the BRDC then.....

It can only be good for the british GP. It is a shame for Silverstone to fall by the wayside but Donnington is prepared to do what it takes and it is an attractive circuit to boot.
