The sad thing is that no-one stepped in to save one of the greatest entrepenurial names - Lotus. Though the Lotus of the 90s was a shaddow of it's former self.

Very sad indeed.. <sad> especially when they turned into Pacific.

But who knows..

Fortunately the Pacific Lotus team was very short lived. It would have been a travesty to taint the Lotus name by running as tail end charlies.

Well, to be fair, for the last few years, they pretty much were. Chronic unreliability didn't help, how often did Johnny Herbert actually get interviewed *after* the race in the 1990s? Not very often until he went to Benetton!

I remember one interview quite vividly, Murray and co were in stitches (well, almost):

"So Johnny, can you tell us what the problem was?"
"Yes, I spoke to you *before* the race!"

Having the 95 Pacific car with a Lotus badge on the side must have had Colin Chapman turning in his grave

And probably hurling as well. <grrr>

Not to my knowledge, Rob. Here's a link to the Brabham entry on the GP Encyclopedia.

Guess not then. That's another bad loss. IMO Sir Jack is one of the most underrated drivers in F1 history.

Agreed. Even in his final season in 1970 he was very competitive, and with a little more luck might even have challenged for the WDC that season.

Too true.. In this Wikipedia entry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Lotus

under '1990s - The End':

Quote:

'Pacific were initially referred to as Pacific Team Lotus and their car featured a green stripe with the Lotus logo but as the season wore on and Pacific's performance and finances were poor most observers felt it unfair to mention Lotus in the same name as Pacific'

<sad> <sad>

I rather lost interest in F1 early in the 1995 season (for this and other non-F1 reasons) and didn't really start taking notice again until Gerhard Berger's engine blew up at Hockenheim in 1996 in front of the championship leader!
