Well if you look at the last major regulation change in 2005, it was Renault and McLaren who made the biggest steps forward with Ferrari and Honda going considerably backwards despite having bigger budgets. I don't think it's as simple as that. |

Ferrari and Mclaren may have the resources, but they are busy throwing them at their 2008 cars, while Honda has basically shelved this year's car and are focussing on the 2009 car (which is what they did last year!). I think it's fkn ludicrous of the FIA to cap the KERS power output... but are they capping the total amount of energy recovered and stored? What about the rate at which is recovered? The team with a more efficient KERS system must surely have more of that extra power at hand? It seems to me that Ferrari as slowly slipping back to the days before Todt and co made them what they were in 2004. Reliability is way behind Mclaren, strategy is as well. Why should they continue to be such a dominant force in F1? This business of replacing foreigners with Italians is starting to take its toll, who knows what they will be like in 2010. I fully expect Honda to take a major step forward in 2009 (provided Fry is left to do PR and Tokyo allow Ross to make the decisions). They are openly courting Alonso and are prepared to offer him a one year contract. Presumably they will be able to afford him (especially if they bump Button). There are very few decent teams with F1 with vacant seats and mega bucks. This could be Alonso's chance to build a team around hhimself, like Schumi did when he joined Ferrari, who were the joke of the paddock at the time. |

But ferrari's poor performance in 2005 was as much to do with tyres as their car. Anyway, they'd pretty much caught up again 12 months later. |
