Kimi was VERY lucky to win the 2007 Championship.

He is also no where near the talent of M Schumacher.

To be fair, no one other than Fangio, Senna, and Clark has been either (Lewis may be someday, but that will be a discussion 5-10 years fom now).

If he wins two titles, it would be hard to criticise him much, regardless of whether you may think he was a bit lucky.

They will find a way.

The criticism of kimi is only about his current form. It is well acknowledged that he in one of the top drivers on the grid.

He has caught flack ever since he replaced Schumi. I don't expect it to stop.

He has caught flack ever since he replaced Schumi. I don't expect it to stop.

I recall he had a easy time to begin with and was praised to the hilt when he won his maiden race with Ferrari... his subsequent drop in form/run of bad luck whatever naturally caused Ferrari fans to question decision to hire him...

But such antics of the Ferrari fans is not new or unique to Ferrari... No fan likes to see a proven race winner leave their team/retire... all they want is for their team to win and when the drivers starts to struggle it is human nature to start venting frustration with the driver... does not mean they hate the driver and when the driver picks up his form again all is forgiven.

Don't pretend this is a Tifosi trait... Kimi delivered the Championship last year... Hooray... that was then... this is now.... and a driver is only as popular with a teams fans as the performance of his last race...

It would be different if you support a driver rather than a team... then you are more willing to cut 'your' driver some slack... but for Fans of a team.... the teams drivers are either helping or hindering and the post race posts will reflect this.

Well, that's how I feel. I'm more of a driver supporter (guess who <dunce> ).

Fans can be awfully fickle, especially when one element of the operation is struggling, be it the driver or the team. Conversely as a driver supporter, I am more likely to give the team some stick than the driver.

Also, while we are at it, let's just remember that Kimi had some pretty big shoes to fill. I'm not saying that Kimi isn't a worthy replacement for MS, far from it, it is just that Schumi had a huge following and it is very hard for a new guy to break into the hearts of these fans. Coupled with a very worthy teammate in Massa and Kimi's job does look very hard.

I've never been a great fan of Kimi. I questioned his motivation and McLaren-breaking driving when he was at McLaren, and I'll still question his motivation now. I didn't think the driving style would be a problem because in my opinion for the last few years while both cars have had equal flashes of speed, I've always thought that the Ferrari is capable of taking more abuse from the driver than the Mac. It does seem odd that Lewis, Alonso and Heikki have had a huge number less technical issues in the two years after he left.

Last year the motivation wasn't a problem because the car was good enough to get the job done most of the time, although he did benefit hugely towards the end of the season for reasons I won't mention because I'll be accused of trolling. However, I'm sure he started to lose the plot a bit during the period that McLaren were dominant. It doesn't help when the driver openly admits to the press that "I don't care about testing, I just want to get in the car and race". Maybe he was misquoted, but there's no smoke without fire.

In any case, the single worst attribute he has is his dreadfully monotone voice. No, it's not his fault, but really does my head in!!

Since the retirement of MS I have not picked a driver to commit the same level of support... the two I am warming to are Hamilton... and Vettel.

Having a 'team' to support is relatively new... (alltough BMW was involved as engine supplier, it is the fact MS retired and BMW bought Sauber that the timing was right... but even so I still blame BMW not Kubica for the recent down turn in fortune)

That is how I felt when Mansell retired. The best I could do was support Hill and hope that Prost wouldn't have him held back. It has taken until Hamilton's arrival for me to find someone I really support, though I did support Hill, even in the dark times (remember the atrocious Arrows).

Damon Hill is to my knowledge Williams most successful driver (1 WDC and 21 wins) he scored Jordan's maiden win and his time at Arrows almost became his crowing achievement... 1997 Hungarian Grand Prix.

<think>

Didn't mansell win 28 GPs with Williams and 1 WDC

Still, Hill is the most successful after Mansell.
