In fact, as.com is now reporting that the two-time Formula One World Driver's champion is in fact signed by Ferrari for 2010.  The publication continues, that Alonso may even land at the legendary Ferrari squad in 2009 if Kimi Raikkonen retires, gets sent packing due to his recent string of lack luster results, or lands at BMW.  Say what! That's right... they are reporting that Raikkonen may go to BMW.

I sort of want to see it. Sorry, Rob.

It would answer a lot of questions regarding how good Massa and Raikkonen are if they were up against Alonso and Kubica respectively.

Also, although presumably this would mean Heidfeld either moving to another team or dropping out of F1 altogether, I would still be interested to see it happen. Imagine Alonso, Raikkonen, Kubica, Massa and Hamilton all potentially in winning cars next year. It would be a very good spectacle, you can't deny that.

Somehow I can't see Kimi wanting to move to BMW, unless they turn up faster than Ferrari next year but I think that's unlikely.

If Kimi is having motivation problems at Ferrari... I fail to see him being more motivated at BMW...

He will retire.

Would BMW be happy with parting with the kind of salary Kimi would demand? Somehow I doubt it.

BMW have taken up Kubica's option for 2009, but for 2010 he is a free agent and therefore BMW will need to convince him to stay - the best way to do this will be to give him a car capable of winning the championship. With this goal in mind, spending significant amounts of money on a driver whose ability and motivation is now being questioned would not be a bright move for BMW, especially since they have a star driver already in Kubica.

Well, it might be that Raikkonen would be willing to take a pay cut to join BMW, especially since he is reportedly not enjoying life at Ferrari now.

Yes i agree with John.

Kimi will not move away from Ferrari unless he is retiring.

Hopefully at the end of this year.

Kimi in my personal view is not the type of driver who helps the image of F1.

We need personalities and drivers who have a desire to push themselves to the limit not fold when everything is not going their way.

If Kimi continues to drive the way he has over the last few GP i would not be suprised to see him pushed out of Ferrari by the fans as the Italians will not put up with 2nd rate performances.

Do you mean like last year, where he was 26 points behind the leaders with MS fans baying for his blood and came back to win the title?

Things were going his way, were they? He folded, did he?

I am/was a MS fan and I never bayed for anyone's blood... why should I after all MS had retired by 2007...

So actually they where Ferrari fan that where voicing concerns over the performance of one of their teams drivers... they may well have been formally MS fans as well of course but first and foremost they are Ferrari fans

get it right <thumbsup>

Do you not mean a rookie folded???

Kimi was VERY lucky to win the 2007 Championship.

He is also no where near the talent of M Schumacher.

I bet M Schumacher would have been a 8 time Champion is he had stayed one more year.

I will eat my shorts is Kimi wins at Spa this year

Sorry, it should have read some MS fans...

Here's an interesting story from September 2007

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/62457

Kimi Raikkonen says he is still in the hunt for this year's title after a dominant one-two from Ferrari at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The Finn, starting from pole position, led from the start and went on to score his third consecutive victory at the Spa circuit.

He finished ahead of teammate Felipe Massa to move 13 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton, fourth today, with just three races remaining.

Raikkonen believes everything is possible in the remaining races and is not ready to give up on his title hopes.

He's currently 13 points behind with 6 races remaining, one of which is his favourite track.

Why all this insistence that he's unmotivated?

I have to admit the hate for Raikkonen is a little extreme, at least from ElusiveJim. Yes, he was crap at Valencia and hasn't qualified well for a few races, but all drivers go through bad patches of form, even Schumacher did. Let's judge Raikkonen at the end of the year. If he wins two titles, it would be hard to criticise him much, regardless of whether you may think he was a bit lucky.
