They had contracts for next year anyway so this announcement is little more than a vote of confidence in the status quo. I have to say despite both drivers having a couple of indifferent races this year that it is the right choice. Alonso hasn't really shown enough (both in terms of teamwork and pure performance) this year to merit taking a seat at Ferrari, while the other options have clear contracts for next year and are not likely to be released from them.

All is as expected.... 2010 is the puzzle

However it means that if Alonso is still hoping to drive for the Scuderia he will have to go one more year at Renault, or get another team to accept him on a one year contract.
