Has Donington even completed planning the revisions...

also... at a recent BMW Alpina track day at Donington Alpina brought their last competition race car the 1988 M3 driven by the son of the founder of Alpina...

the car took to the circuit and after one lap was called back to the pit's ... it had fallen foul of the local councils noise limits... they after some handy work and reducing the revs managed to return to the track and complete the demo runs...

what is the position noise wise going to be with Donington

Errrr can we close this not very F1 related thread or atleast STFU as it's getting a little them and us tedious.

Having been born and lived for 40 years on an island that seems to have a huge identity problem I prefer neither to call myself English nor British and don't even reside there any longer. No I am not a rich former F1 driver in tax exile, unfortunately.

This them and us, we're better than you crap is getting annoying. If we're going to moan about anything can't we at least agree to disagree about the most contentious issue that is F1 and save the patriarchal rantings for appropriate forums.

Actually, nearly all of the ranting on this thread has been me ranting at John for calling me xenophobic.

Nobody has actually ranted about "Them" & "Us".

(Well, they might have, we certainly haven't :D )

Well the Valencia vs Donnington British vs Spanish and the overtones of the british(english whatever) are evil for invading the rest of the world implications and direct needling is really uneccesary.

<think>

I think ron's coments really need to be taken into context. He is saying that he is ashame of the UK's inability to host a major motorsports event in the same way as valencia. I mean what do we have at the moment? Silverstone, which, athough a competent enough racing circuit, isn't exactly a glittering specticle. I certainly don't think he is bringing politics into this, except for may be a veiled prod about the lack of government assistance for motorsport (yet they seem to be able to afford the spend hundreds of billions on the olympics).

Now there's the difference.

When someone wants to build a piece of infrastructure in the UK, we have months if not years of hand-wringing before a single sod is dug. For example: T5, the high-speed track to the channel tunnel, Coventry airport (yes, there is one) to name but few.

Generally, the problem is nobody wants any of these in their own back yards.

Whereas in France and Spain, the attitude is different - these type of projects are seen to bring prestige to an area.

Please gentlemen, let's keep the discussion civil. The personal insults are unnecessary.

regardless of personal views on the 2012 games... there is a difference in that the Olympics might say London Games... but the WILL reflect upon the whole country globally (good or bad).... should Britain fail to host a home GP.... it's impact globally will be far less... we because of our interest are more awear of it but to the average person in the street they will be less bothered either way.

I'm not agains't the olympics, it is just that the insame quantity of money spent on them could uprate every single major race circuit in the UK several times over, so may be a little government assistance shouldn't be too much of an ask. Also, if anyone believes that the olympic venues will be sustainable after the games, then they are kidding themselves. Investment in a race track would have ongoing earning potential after construction.

simply because you wandered into my crosshairs at the wrong time... <blush>

You where right of course to point out the irony in Ron's comment and had I not been having a below par day in work, I'd probably not have missed it <doh>

It is always good to see you post and my flippant remark is for my part regrettable.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has stated he is "ashamed to be English"

I'm ashamed to be English after witnessing Ron Dennis. Never mind, I' m sure we'll both get over it.
