Oh for god's sake don't be so pedantic. I'm sure the BUILDERS of T5 did a very good job - seeing as how it's all working nicely now. It was the people who COMMISSIONED it TESTED it (or didn't) and RUN it who cocked it up - i.e. BAA / Ferrovial who are SPANISH and it is they who rent it and its services it to British Airways. |

When faces with xenophobes it is prudent to be pedantic...
And I am equally sure that the VAST MAJORITY of these BAA employee's whom you claim "COMMISSIONED it TESTED it (or didn't) and RUN it who cocked it up..." are actually British not Spanish.... |

Are you not blowing this a little out of proportion? It was, after all, a mere offhand remark about Terminal 5, which by the way, has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. |

Nope... it was not a mere offhand remark... the comment was deliberate, untrue and uncalled for... as for off topic... that's life. |

The company that "built" i.e. commissioned, tested and runs T5 is spanish. Yes I deliberately pointed that out, and no it is not "untrue". And for this, you're calling me a Xenophobe? Yes the T5 cock-up was embarrassing, but what is more embarrassing is that much of british infrastructure has actually been sold-off to foreign owned companies, who have no interest in "not embarrassing the british". Wembley Stadium? Fixed-price contract cocked up by Multiplex, an Australian company. Thames Water? Much maligned for it's lack of investment and leaky pipes - owned by German utility group RWE T5 - commissioned, owned and operated by BAA / Ferrovial, a spanish company. None of this makes me xenophobic. All of it is true. Why is it uncalled for? Ron Dennis says he is embarrassed to be English, someone says "hey I'm embarrassed about T5" so I point out that there was a large Spanish influence in there - who are the very nation that Ron is holding up as paragons of excellence. Really, John, you're being such a Troll on this one.

and once again you conveniently confuse built/commissioned/run.... with owned.... as I have already said the ownership of BAA is immaterial to the failure of T5 upon completion... the overwhelming majority of people involved would have been NON-SPANISH... I am not being a 'troll' on this although the adage it takes one to know on might have some bearing here...

Actually John Ferrovial oversaw most of the T5 design and construction you'll find that the majority of the major people involved in T5 were Spanish.... like I said, I know this because Ferrovial also own the company I work for and we all mix with each other and the T5 sham has brought up many laughs wthin our business... |

I'm sorry but you are conveniently ignoring the fact that the people in charge are Spanish. And Stradlin has kindly backed me up on this. I have no doubt that the majority of the people who built T5 were british (in fact a lot of them were Polish!) but the problems that T5 experienced were not down to the quality of building work, they were down to the lack of organisational direction from the top including adequate testing and operations planning, both of which were the responsibility of BAA, who had a number of spanish executives in charge of the job. I'm not saying "The spanish are all bastards", I'm just saying that it's ironic that there was a significant spanish involvement/responsibility in the T5 cock-up which is held up as a reason to be embarrassed to be English. If you don't agree that this is ironic, then I think you are sitting too high on your horse. I wouldn't mind so much if you didn't insult me personally in every single subsequent posting. Hence the troll comment. Want to look back through my (admittedly few) postings over the past 18 months and have a vote-off on who's the biggest troll? |

Errrr can we close this not very F1 related thread or atleast STFU as it's getting a little them and us tedious. Having been born and lived for 40 years on an island that seems to have a huge identity problem I prefer neither to call myself English nor British and don't even reside there any longer. No I am not a rich former F1 driver in tax exile, unfortunately. This them and us, we're better than you crap is getting annoying. If we're going to moan about anything can't we at least agree to disagree about the most contentious issue that is F1 and save the patriarchal rantings for appropriate forums. |

Surely the nationality of the individual manager(s) responsible for the lack of testing, training and trial runs before opening T5 doesn't matter, as long as they're from the EU? Anyway, if the UK was to build another circuit, or get Donington up to scratch, let's hope it would be done by people with enough experience to get it right first time. Valencia telephone numbers start with +3496
