Can't really see Red Bull being interested in Heidfeld ... thought they had confirmed Vettel and Webber.

Presumably if Heidfeld were to move to Red Bull, it would be with STR rather than the senior team - as you say, the "A team" have already confirmed Webber and Vettel for 2009.

I read recently that STR are looking to pair an experienced driver with a younger one for 2009 - the "younger driver" role is most likely to be filled by Sebastian Buemi, although it is certainly possible that Bruno Senna could take that seat instead. There has been little talk as yet about who could fill the other seat - it depends how experienced Berger and Tost want their lead driver to be. If they are looking for someone with a little more experience than Bourdais, then it could be the case that Heidfeld is their best option.

STR's future as a team is a little shaky, given that they are to be sold for 2010 as customer cars will be banned from there on in; any experienced driver wanting to take up a seat there should either be confident of performing well enough to be taken on by the new owners, or consciously winding down towards retirement. Does Heidfeld fit into either of these categories? I'm not sure.

I still can't help feeling that Heidfeld has been shafted somewhat by this BMW and this year's regulations. There is no doubt that he has talent and I feel that talent would be wasted in an STR. Hopefully he gets at least another year to impress with BMW, as his performances in the previous two years show that he has given a lot to the team.
