How good is Vettel?

Vettel Has impressed me. He takes a relatively poor car and puts it in places it has no right to be. A little rough around the edges yes, but at 20 he is still on a learning curve and with youth on his side he has plenty of time yet.

I think Red Bull is a sensible move. he gets to work with some well respected names in the back room and gets to learn from a seasoned campaigner in Mark Webber. Who knows, he may even show him a clean set of heels?

To me this is a driver taking each step with measure. With the money Red Bull have at their disposal there is no reason to doubt that they are looking to challenge the monopoly (or duality) of McLaren and Ferrari. With a young gun and an old (relatively) hand driving the cars there is potential for Red Bull to move up the grid next season.

Now all they need is a reliable car...

Cant see Red Bull ever progressing beyond mid-order as they have a customer engine.

In this day, they need a manufactour to back them and them only.

There where rumours that Ferrari have recently started supplying their full spec engine to TR, instead of the usual customer engine. That would explain massive increase in Vettels spped of late.

Vettel does have the spark of genius, though it shines less rarely when compared to LH.

8/10 for Vettel

The only difficulty facing Vettel is that it is increasingly appearing as though the Ferrari customer engine is better to have than the Renault. So the Red Bull "senior" team could turn out to be, in the long run, a step backwards.

The one thing Vettel will have at RBR that he won't have at STR is job security. Aside from Toro Rosso's woeful record on driver management, the fact that Mateschitz is actively looking to sell the "B" team in 2009 means that if Vettel were to continue there, a 2010 drive would not be particularly secure.

I think the engine issue was something of a one-off at Valencia. Red Bull have been significantly quicker than STR at other tracks, though Monza might be like last weekend too with its long straights.
