He was already beating Fisichella by the Spanish GP, the 4th race of the season. We're now 6 races into this season and Piquet still looks well short of being a worthwhile driver.

Yes but Piquet has a much tougher yardstick against which to be measured (Alonso) than Heikki did (Fisi).

I'm not sure this year's Renault is much better than last year's. They just have a better lead driver.

I don't believe for a moment this year's Renault is better than last year's. If anything, it's worse. Renault appear to be the fourth best team at the moment with Alonso driving, and about the seventh best with Piquet driving. In reality I'd say they're somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.

But he was scoring points and looking like a competant driver.

Piquet can't even keep it on the island most of the time. His season so far is considerably worse than Kovalainen's was at this point last year. At least he had shown promise.

Yes, this is my point which no one seems to notice or to be getting. Piquet may have a tough team mate to be compared with, but he hasn't put in any half decent shows and has trouble keeping it on the track, not just Monaco on slicks in the wet.

I'm not wishing to get dragged into defending the young Piquet. I'm not necessarily suggesting that he is particularly good just that I think six races is too early to judge.

As I said even Heikki was pretty rubbish at the start of last season. Flav must have seen something in the lad and Flav's record of picking up hot girls and young boys is none too shabby.

But yes, he does need to get a couple of decent results sooner rather than later. Judging from his GP2 performances I wouldn't put that beyond him. The time will come soon though when we should judge him on his F1 performances.

That sounds a tad slanderous to me. <roflmao>
