I don't think you'd be so calm if it was Vinnie Jones or Ray Winstone |

Can't help but think that none of the 'top' drivers have been particularly special this year... Massa, Kimi and Lewis have all had poor races and Kovi has had a lot of bad luck. Thought Kimi would romp away with the title this year, but his performance so far has been average to good, rather than that of a dominating driver/WDC. Maybe Kimi isn't the driver everyone thought him to be ... seems not to have the consistency of a true great. Still think Kimi will (or should) win the WDC this year .... it is hard to see Lewis having as much luck in the coming races as he had in Monaco and he has already shown this year and last that he is likely to stumble at some point in the season. With Alonso stuck in the Renault, it feels like we've got a bunch of good drivers in great cars, rather than some great drivers in great cars. The triumph of mediocrity in F1. |

So why do Hollywood villains always have British accents? Must hark back to the good old days, before the War of Independence. |

Vinnie was a professional footballer who made his name by being a better thug than he was a footballer. The following photo has been edited (couldn't find the original) to change the players shirts but Vinnie was not a nice fellow: ![]() |

Yes I know he was a footie player, but he's a screen villain, not a real life one. Despite what he may have done as a footie player. |

yes... I know they are actors.... but what I was alluding to was the fact Rob was saying being threatened by people with British accents was not scary... I was merely putting the notion forward that although only actors I would feel quite intimidated by VJ or RW in full gangster mode... ergo if actors can be intimidating... how much more so if it was say Ronnie Kray in his prime...

But everything else being equal, Brits don't sound that scary. Now Russians they sound scary.... |

Maybe that's because Rob's too busy trying to work out WTF they are saying to be afraid? |

You've just hit on the fundamental essence of fear. |

True... in essence... but you do not need to have verbal understanding to be intimidating... ask those Westerners in Thai Jails... or those kidnapped by Insurgents in Iraq... do you think they feel less intimidated because they do not understand what their captors are saying... actions often speak louder than words... |

No my point is that an inability to understand eachother promotes fear. Not fear in the sense that we are afraid, but that we see each other as a threat to what we believe keeps us safe. It works on many levels, not just language, but that's where it's the most obvious. Xenophobia. |

has to be said also that many professional footballers found Vinnie intimidating. Not least the entire Liverpool team. |
