Well, if it makes you feel better .... Fisi should have been penalised for ramming Nakajima in Turkey, what a muppet. But then I don't recall there being a stewards' enquiry on that incident to comment on (there may have been one, I just don't remember it ever being discussed).

But the fact that they "got it wrong by accident" doesn't excuse the fact that they got it wrong. I'm not in favour of overtaking-moves-gone-wrong being excessively punished unless the move is obviously dangerous, because I don't believe drivers should be discouraged from overtaking one another, but simple careless driving that adversely affects someone else's race should be cracked down upon because it can easily be avoided. In the same way, I think Kovalainen should have had at least a stern talking-to after he came together with Button, and probably Alonso on Heidfeld too.

he did lose control in an area that the four cars ahead of him had passed without any problems, and the error he made could certainly have been avoided.

So, when Coulthard crashed there in quali it was fine because he didn't hit anyone else? Also, I recall Alonso, Bourdais and DC all crashing at a spot where several cars had just passed through without incident. I think you're Ferrari bashing again....

Because his error happened to ruin somebody else's race. Lewis, Nico, DC, Alonso (2 WDC's), Glock, etc, etc did not.

Is that the criterion for a grid penalty?

If that's the case, then Nico bringing out the S/C should be penalised for Sutil's accident.

In that case, anyone who's ever crashed into anyone else should have had a penalty. In the context of the last race, Alonso should be penalised for hitting Heidfeld and ruining his race due to the puncture, and Button should be given a penatly for breaking his front wing and ruining his own race.....

What a truly daft notion for penalties.....

Bourdais and DC should both be penalised for crashing into each other, don't forget.

Yes, but if DC hadn't crashed, Bourdais wouldn't have been able to hit him. So that means DC is to blame.

In addition, I propose a twenty place penalty for Lewis Hamilton in Canada, as he deliberately ruined everyone's race at Monaco by beating them hands down....
