The 2008 Monaco GP is the 600th race Frank Williams has participated in. Autosport have an interesting Q&A session with him to mark the occasion:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/67643

Some interesting statements in there about Lewis Hamilton:

Quote:

The thing about Lewis … it was obvious from his GP2 season, which he dominated, that he was going to be wall-to-wall trouble. And unfortunately, that has proven to be the case. But he was a McLaren man for many, many years, to Ron's credit. I think Ron funded a lot of his racing in the early days, and Ron deserves the payback, if you like, which he is presently getting. So Lewis wasn't really on our radar because he wasn't our driver.

And the prospect of using customer Ferrari engines:

Quote:

If [the manufacturers] all suddenly pull out then that's a problem. And no engines. And the thought of having to go to Ferrari to buy engines causes us considerable dismay.

Interesting stuff from Frank, the article is well worth a read.

Why would that be, because he's tight?

This rather rubbishes stories a few months back where Patrick Head claimed BMW blocked attempts to sign Hamilton...

I think anyone with a basic knowledge of F1 knew Lewis was off limits to other teams.

No-one is off-limits to any team, money permitting. Just ask Jenson Button.

It was more the other way around. Hamilton was looking around to see if he could get any better deals because McLaren forced him to spend another year in the Euro F3 series or whatever it was.

Not that Williams would have had enough money to buy Lewis out of whatever contract Ron had him tied up in, though. To all intents and purposes Lewis was always going to be a McLaren driver.
