Anyone arguing that Silverstone should hold it;s place purely on merit of it's history couldn't disagree that Monza should be included on the same grounds.

True, but I personally think that nostalgia is an awful reason to keep a race on the calendar. There are many circuits that provide better entertainment than Monza even if they do have less historical relevance.

Well, OK, may be he doesn't worry about upsetting ferrari but he obviously has some reason for his hypocracy.

Money. Monza pay significantly more than Silverstone for their GP.

No, it's because he's a businessman who doesn't want to give a load of old duffers to hold one of his events on a dull racetrack with crap facilities AND give them a discount on their already comparatively small fee for holding the event.

If you want to label someone a tosser, maybe you ought to look in the direction of the perosn or persons who keep on promising to do stuff at the circuit and then arguing the toss when it hasn't been done...... If they spent as much time fundraising as they did dithering and moaning, then Silverstone would be a good facility.

Bernie has been going on for the best part of a decade about improving the facilities at Silverstone, and exactly what is different now to a few years back? Bugger all as far as I can tell. While I've not actually been there, it wold appear that the last major work done anywhere was in between the 1990 and 1991 seasons where they ruined the track and supposedly did some upgrades in the pits. We've heard for years about this new pit block, and never seen anything other than drawings of something that looks like a reject from a GCSE art exam. I think they've had long enough to play ball with Bernie, they know what he's like, and quite frankly I wish they'd stop moaning and pull their fingers out.

It's not really going to be feasible for Silverstone to start major building works this side of the British Grand Prix.

Of course not. That would be even more stupid than ignoring Bernie for the best part of a decade and hoping he'll go away!

And it would be a lot more stupid than this:

Quote from above article

"Ecclestone is stalwartly also demanding that Silverstone rapidly begins its promised pit and paddock upgrade. "

agree with the majority of what you say there, apart from the bit about them doing bugger all, I've been going every year for the last 5-6 years and there are improvements being made each time, new toilet blocks, new stands, improved viewing areas, improved pathways, improved access and car parking etc. from a spectator point of view things have changed for the better. they just need to improve the paddock and it will be up there with the best.
