Allen doesn't want rain for the gp because it will affect Hamilton's chances... <doh>

http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature.aspx?Type=James_Allen&id=42732

A classic example of him putting his love for Hamilton ahead of the excitement of the spectacle which is supposed to be his main priority.

No Rams... haven't you heard... it is just a British commentator normally expressing support for a British driver... <doh>

He would prefer a dull race and Hamilton to win, rather than an exciting race and Hamilton to not win.

Let's see... his job is to commentate on the sport. And so shouldn't he prefer an exciting race?

To be honest, I reckon if it rains, Hamilton will do extremely well.

I have no problems with the ITV coverage devoting some time to fellow countrymen. However, when the entrie pre-race buildup constitutes mainly of what Lewis did in the last race, what he did before this race, what he did in the previous sessions, and what he had for breakfast, I start to get rather fed up!

It was typified a few races back, when we had the ridiculous comment of:

"Well, we'll have the podium interviews in just a few moments, but more importantly, Louise has caught up with fourth placed Lewis Hamilton"

I mean, FFS, there's patriotism, and then there's just blatant bias and ignorance. I'm damned sured that the BBC would cover the podium interviews first, and then their countryman/men after. Oh, and they'd actually SHOW the podium interviews after every race, and not bleat on about Coronation Shite and running out of time (but still having time to waffle for ten minutes about Hamilton).

To be honest, I reckon if it rains, Hamilton will do extremely well.

If he starts at the front probably, but if it rains in qualifying then it could become a lottery with red flags and traffic.

The BBC always showed the full qualifying sessions, races and press conferences live in 1996. Sure, they were more biased towards Mansell and then Hill. But particularly for Murray, pure racing was still top of the agenda. Listen to the exictement in his voice when Villeneuve overtakes Hill at Melbourne 1996. If that was Allen with Hamilton being overtaken by Kovalainen or whoever, he'd be crying his eyes out.

I can see it is difficult for some non-british forum members to understand. But, James Allen is British, as of course is Lewis, Hill, and Mansell.

So for the vast majority of the British population, it is natural to take greater interest in the efforts of ones countryman in internatioanl sport. ITV F1 coverage is non less or more bias than BBC five live England footie matches. Its what the vast majority want.

Its only the minority - the socially anti-patriotic outcasts - that object so strongly. But, hey their the minority and a vast number seem to have found companionship in the halls of this forum...

I suppose what is difficult to understand, is why an English supporter would hate their own countrtyman so much.

what a load of old waffle... real F1 fans are interested in ALL F1 drivers and teams, and expect the courtesy of seeing /hearing about them on an F1 programme <doh>

Everyone accepts that ITV will have some bias... that is to be expected...

but what some on there fail again (and again and again) to accept is that ITV will go to extraordinary lengths just to give ALL it's viewers (regardless of nationality) every last detail of Hamilton's breakfast, rather than devote some of what little air time they are allocated to letting ALL viewers know what is happening with OTHER teams and drivers (even other British drivers would be a change)

Saying they are just being patriotic is a dumb-ass answer as their role is not to be patriotic... it is to provide a balanced report of F1... it can be slightly biased to British teams/drivers fair enough... but it isn't even that... is is so blatantly one driver orientated it is a JOKE.

If you (and others) cannot see that.... then fair enough.... but don't get upset when other, less blinkered, viewers (both British and non-British) voice genuine concerns.

F1 is completly different to Football with respect to support. Football is a very patriotic and nationalistic game, where as many F1 fans (in fact most that i know) dont consider patriotic issues much when it comes to picking a favorite driver or team.
Therefore comparing bias of football commentators and F1 is completely meaningless.
And its not that most of us dont want the commentry team to spend anytime on lewis at all, its that we would like them to give us a more balanced view of the grid and maybe realise that there are people watching that have different fave drivers.

And just cos somebody doesnt worship someone doesnt mean they hate them, it means that they just prefer someone else.

Sorry John, but ITV's job is to make as much money out of its viewing public, which just happen to be British, that being their broadcast market. Not to pander to a small percentage of hardcore F1 fans.

But they make no money, because the licence fee is paid to the Beeb. They only make money from advertisers, who are unlikely to know for sure if the TV ads actually sell anything or not....

Marketers and advertisers are cleverer than you think, don't underestimate their ability to get to you.

I've never bought anything advertised on the TV, and any companies that advertise on the TV that I use are purely coincidental. Not to mention the fact that I make doubly sure to avoid anything advertised during the 27th ad break in the first 10 laps of a grand prix....

It doesn't matter about you, do you think they're going to spend a fortune trying to convince the ONE or TWO that THINK they know how to resist?

It's product placement and association. There are enough people watching to catch the ones that spend without having to think about it. And they do. These people know what they are doing.
