Sorry, etg, I couldn't help but notice the irony of his comment. <roflmao>

Though I don't get the ITV coverage of the races, for years I have read that JA causes a mess if JB or LH win. There have been a large number of people consistently saying that. I have no idea if thats true or not and I don't care to find out.

It was just a joke. I found it ironic that he disapproved of JA's alleged reaction to LH when we all know how devoted he was to a certain German to the point of Saurkraut tintied glasses. Anyway, I appologise for any unintended offense caused. It was purely meant in jest.

Incidentally, JA can be a tad over bearing about Brits and he was a tad excited at the end of the 2006 Hungarian GP, but I don't see the problem. My issue is that, for some reason, it is wrong for the british commentators to like brits but it's ok of every other nationality to root for the home boys. It reeks of hypocracy.

Well, having never watched the F1 coverage from Spain or Germany I can't comment on how their commentators react to home drivers doing well. All I can say is that ITV spend too much time focusing on Lewis Hamilton and not enough on emphasising the show as a whole. Some of us switch on to watch how all the drivers are doing, not just Hamilton.

Even other British drivers get ignored... it is not about being patriotic at all... it is almost all about Hamilton... his quali, his race... his reaction.... and that is what a lot of viewers find unacceptable.

OK, I agree that ITV do seem to get alot of access to Lewis in the race build up, but it was pretty much the same when Mansell was the big british hero. I note that you don't complain about that (and neither would I because I was a big Mansell fan).

That and the fact that there were no messageboards to moan on? <LOL>

That's because I didn't watch F1 when Mansell was racing, given that I wasn't all that old at the time....

It is pointless to complain about TV coverage by another network of a driver who stopped racing in F1 14 years ago <think>

I don't recall the coverage being so one driver orientated back then... nor during the Hill/Coultard years...

I think this became more noticeable with ITV and the arrival of Button.

I do not mind the biased commentary during the race so much it is the OTT pre race stuff and when they pull stunts like only broadcasting 3rd place Hamilton's press conference <doh>

Bearing in mind that hamilton is still very much sought after by the media and his name is well recognised by the man in the street, I can understand why they do it. It would have been the same in germany with Michael Schumacher in the mid-90 (OK may be not such focused coverage but the recognition would have been similar). The fact that Lewis is a big name in the media gets new fans interested in F1, much like MS did, which can't be a bad thing. Also, I suspect that drivers like DC don't make themselves as readily available to ITV and it is a case of easy access as much as getting ratings.

For commentators I'd take any 2 of the following: Martin Brundle, Ben Edwards, Jeremy Shaw, Charlie Cox and John Watson.

For pundits axe Blundell (he's too bland and he doesn't puts his words in the right order when he speaks). Coulthard or Hill would be worth a try. You could also have guest pundits, such as Jeremy Clarkson.

For pit-lane reporters. This job is a waste of time, don't bother.
