Nelson Piquet has been told he must improve his results as quickly as possible if he is to stave off question marks about his future in Formula One http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/67436 |

Just as long as he doesn't start doing better than Alonso

Well, I doubt Flav would let it get that far. But seriously, either the renault is chronic and it is Alonso's immense talents making the difference or Nelshinio is not as good as we first thought. |

Most likely a combination of all three. |

I've always suspected that Nelshinio, although definitley talented, was a tad over hyped, though I expected him to make more of a splash than he is doing. |

He did himself no favours by hyping himself beyond belief. Considering the impact he said he was going to have he's been nothing but an embarrasment and Kova deserves an apology from Renault. No wonder he left. |

I'm sure Kovi is happier at McLaren, in a much better car and probably on much better money.

Bear in mind that the team and car is built around Alonso. I'd at least give Piquet more time, he's shown that he has talent in GP2, where he ran Hamilton very close. |

So that explains his unpopularity ......

I didn't watch GP2 back then but I've read that 2006 was Piquet's second year in GP2 and thanks to his father had the entire team build around him. Piquet's debut has been one of the worst I can remember for a long time. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy Wouldn't mind seeing Grosjean in that seat. |

Could it also be down to Flav's inability to manage drivers, in terms of driver-confidence? He has criticised or fallen out with almost every driver he's had since the days of Michael Schumacher. You get the impression he does not fuly support his drivers - unless they happen to be as good as his beloved Schumacher. |

There are a few guys that could do a good job in Piquet's seat. Grosjean is one, Renault's current tester Lucas di Grassi is another, and in a year or two I reckon Alvaro Parente would be a good bet. Although Piquet's GP2 team was built around him, it was massively under-resourced compared to the Arden International team where Hamilton raced. On balance I think Piquet did a good job to run Lewis as close as he did. But then F1 is a totally different kettle of fish to any other series, and some drivers that perform well or even brilliantly in lower formulae fail miserably in the top flight (Jan Magnussen, anyone?). On the other hand, we can hardly expect everyone to take to F1 immediately as effectively as Hamilton did, so perhaps it's unfair to be drawing such sweeping conclusions about Nelsinho's F1 prospects just yet. On a slightly different note, it's slightly sad that some people haven't yet cottoned on to the fact that Nelson Piquet isn't his father, even if the names are the same.

Bit early for Grosjean yet I think. Pantano is leading GP2 right now anyway. Grosjean I think will get to F1 eventually, and if Renault have any business sense at all it'll be with them. French driver/French team = +sales of merchandise. |

Pantano didn't exactly set the world alight the last time he was in F1. I think many teams would pass him by for an F1 drive, especially since he has been in GP2 for quite some time now and has only just started to make a real impact. |
