The French Grand Prix will be held at Magny-Cours for the last time this year but Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said he hoped it could return to a new circuit in Paris in 2010. "We agreed that there would be a French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours in 2008 but not in 2009," Ecclestone told French sports daily L'Equipe. "(French) Prime Minister Francois Fillon told me we would then see if we could have a Grand Prix in Paris or just outside but that would not necessarily be for 2009, rather for 2010. "In any case, 2008 will be the last time we continue like this." http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/12052008/58/...is-gp-2010.html |

Does anybody remember the days when Formula 1 races took part on circuits instead of street tracks? |

Nothing wrong with having a couple of street circuits on the calendar as they do offer a different challenge to the teams and drivers. However, it does seem that the powers that be are obsessed with them at the moment. In my opinion there need to be more circuits like Melbourn and Montreal. Both are not street circuits in the same way Monaco is, but make a mistake and there isn't a lot of room for error which is what is needed to challenge the top drivers. |

Lets have a residential street race as well, or north pole race, or desert sand race, or how about just seeing a decent race on a track and you can then forget the gimmicks? |

We don't want another Melbourne it is a crap track and never produced a good race. Bernie couls have his VIP GP at Paul Ricard in it's place. A street race is all well and good if you have no alternative such as Monaco and Singapore. France has some great tracks and there is no need to create a track in down town Paris. |

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone says this year's French Grand Prix will be the last held at Magny-Cours. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport...one/7397329.stm He said in an interview with French sports daily L'Equipe: "The concern is the location - 2008 will be the last time we continue like this. "I would really love a French Grand Prix in the streets of Paris." Ecclestone added: "Prime Minister Francois Fillon told me we would see if we could have a Grand Prix in Paris or just outside but that would not necessarily be for 2009, rather for 2010." Mark |

I beg to differ. This year's Aussie GP has been arguably the best race of the year, and Melbourne usually at least offers a high rate of attrition and an unpredictable result. |

While on holiday, I was musing on the possibility of having a street race in Jersey. There aren't many places where this would be possible, but the prime candidate would be the main dual carriageway around the top of St. Aubin's Bay on the south of the Island. Pleanty of places to set up grandstands, and the car parking along the seafront promenade would be suitable for the pits. Only problem is, there isn't much variety for the course of the track, but the edge of St. Helier could be included. ............yes you guessed it, I'm kidding.. just don't tell Bernie! |

If you take the last 4 races into consideration, that's nothing to be proud of! Melbourne HAS had good races though. 2003 and 2006 to name two. I think part of the problem with Melbourne is that a lot of older F1 fans preferred Adelaide. |

Yeah, Adelaide was such an exciting track with its endless sequence of ninety-degree turns. ![]() In my opinion there are two reasons why F1 fans liked Adelaide: firstly it was always the last race of the season, meaning that in many cases the title was to be decided there, and secondly the period in which there was a GP at Adelaide (1985-1995) coincided with what many people believe to be the most exciting period in F1's history, so it's no surprise that Adelaide produced its fair share of good races like practically every other track around that time. If F1 were to return to Adelaide now it would be just another yawnfest, and not a particularly challenging one at that. |
