You can't second guess the opposition. The only place on the grid you can accurately qualify for in the final session is 1st or 10th. To get tenth, you don't go out, and to get first, you go flat out on low fuel. There's no way that a driver can or would go out to qualify third or fifth, it just can't be done.

I'll watch the recording over the w/e and see if Hamilton had that opportunity, eg. fairly late on in the session.

IIRC he finished his last lap / about 15 seconds remaining, he may have been second at the time.

Hell, I'm not having a dig about team orders but some people seem to feel uncomfortable with Ferrari's past use of team orders and try to tar McLaren with the same brush when there is hardly any similarity between the cases. Hell, I don't mind if team orders are used, as long as it doesn't make a mockery of the sport and people don't get so damn insecure about it. On sunday, it was quite obvious that McLaren were not employing team orders.

I find it a bit on the opposite side myself, Andy. Ferrari fans, along with fans of most of the other teams, have gotten use to the idea of 'non-blantant' team orders and have accepted they happen. It's only the McLaren fans who seem to get angry when people point out that they probably do the same.

The odds are, yes - Heikki was told to move over, keep in front of Kimi and if Lewis got by, so be it. He's on a lighter load so don't be his roadblock. It's only smart team strategy and less people forget, yes... this IS also a team sport.

I don't find that to be the case at all. The only time McLaren fans get annoyed is when they are lambasted for using team orders yet other teams don't even get mentioned when they do it. I mean, in Melbourne 1998, Mclaren got a load of stick, even though that was the drivers, not the team, yet, ferrari had a blatant culture of team orders until they spoilt it for every one in Austria 2002, yet no-one even batted an eyelid in Ferrari's case. It is not the team orders that bother me, it is the obvious double standard, though, I shouldn't be surprised, F1 is full of double standards when it comes to following the FIA's agenda, especially when it comes to selective enforcement of the rules or banning technology.

I find this post rather vindictive. It is out of order to "wish" for a driver to crash.

No its not. Theres a difference between wanting a driver to crash out a race and wanting them to get injured. Yopu support one driver(s) you want their rivals to retire. Hence I prefer to see Lewis retire than Heikki.

Did I say I wanted anyone injured?

I have never been and never will be a Lewis fanboy. The sooner the UK stops worshipping him, the better.

er what? Were you ever on the BBC boards (I think you were, I could be wrong though), Ferrari were getting drilled for Austria 2002 in 06. I recall after the 06 USGP, the loads of anti-Ferrari comments because Shumi got ahead of Massa after the first stop.

I appreciate you not being a fan of Lewis, as is your choice, but why do you think that no-one should support him? Surely it is upto the individual who they support and if he happens to be very popular in the UK, so be it. No-one ever suggested that the Germans shouldn't support schumacher or said it was wrong for the italians to support Ferrari. After Monaco, it is pretty clear that Lewis is well worth supporting in the UK because 1) he is British and 2) he is damn good.

OK, may be I went a tad overboard, but blatant bashing isn't exactly an attractive quality in a post and in this post it was clear that there were serious undertones of hatred. Even I gave Schumacher a break, occasionally. <think>
