According to Martin Whitmarsh Heikki Kovalainen could have won his first GP. He was heavier on fuel than Massa which puts his performance into perspective, meaning he outqualified Hamilton with about 5 laps more fuel, very impressive. Hope he gets some luck sometime.

It's easy to say that when no-one will ever find out how much fuel Heikki was really carrying. <doh>

But yes, I agree. Hope he gets some luck soon, he would be a lot closer to Hamilton if the points table reflected actual pace.

Remember that Heikki also qualified on the soft tyres while Lewis qualified on the hard tyres, so that will account for some of the difference.

I can't believe I just defended Lewis. <doh>

He might have, but who's to say he would have held on to Hamilton and Massa?

Hamilton chose to qualify on hard tyres because he couldn't make the soft tyres work.

Heikki could have won in Turkey. He was quicker than Lewis all weekend.

Lewis was 2nd though and not far behind Massa. Heikki was inline to win that race.

Interesting theory.

Heikki was faster in qualifying but looking at his pace in his rare clear laps he was reasonably slower than the top 3.

Without a first corner accident I'd say Raikkonen could've won rather than Kovalainen. He lost a couple of places as a result of the crash and the front wing damage as well. He was only a handful of seconds behind Massa after his second stop.

Interesting theory.

It's debateable how much Kimi's front wing damage affected his race pace, because if the damage had been too substantial the wing would have been changed (if not immediately, surely at a scheduled stop). Plus he managed to set the fastest race lap despite the damage. On the other side of the coin, regarding Kovalainen's race pace, surely it is possible that he sustained some damage in the first corner incident other than the puncture, that could not be repaired in the pits (i.e. losing some kind of aero device or incurring slight suspension damage).

Also, I'd say Hamilton could have won rather than Kovalainen or Raikkonen, had he been able to look after his tyres properly and thus been able to use the optimal two-stop strategy rather than a three-stopper.

But what does all this matter? Massa did the best job on the day, it seems like some will try anything to detract from even his finest performances.

Well, had Massa and Hamilton collided, Kimi could have won. But he could have run over the debris, and this could have given him a puncture. So, if could could be real, we could know the answer rather than pretend something else could have happened!

Well, if Super Aguri had been allowed to compete in Turkey, Davidson would have won.

Prove me wrong. :P
