Kimi Raikkonen could only manage fourth in the second Ferrari after getting caught behind Fernando Alonso on his last lap.

I sense a protest coming on <yikes>

Great stuff from Massa. I suspect Raikkonen has a bit more fuel on board, but that won't mean a thing if he's losing time behind the McLarens tomorrow.

Heidfeld again well off Kubica's pace in quali (5 tenths). Piquet not making it out of Q1 again. Considering the step forward that Renault appears to have made, that is disappointing.

Overall an interesting-looking grid, in that at least the front row isn't locked out by Ferrari and thus the race won't be a completely forgone conclusion.

Unless Massa has a problem i can not see anyone now beating him.

The Mclarens were fast in quali but looked a handful.

Interesting that Kovalainen has outqualified Hamilton again.

'Again'? Hamilton was 3-1 up in quali before this weekend, as far as I remember.

2nd time in 5 races. Considering we are led to believe that Hamilton is a driving god, and invincible ('a save reminiscent of Gordon Banks' :s), it is interesting.

If you say so.

Personally, I have never considered Hamilton a god, nor did I expect him to have it his own way against Kovalainen this year, so it is no great shock.

Anyone care to take a stab at predicting fuel loads then?

I'd guess:

Kovalainen
Hamilton +1 lap
Massa, Trulli +2
Kubica, Webber +3
Alonso, Raikkonen +4
Heidfeld +5
Coulthard +8

I think Heikki and Lewis are about equal on fuel. The first in will be the one who's stuck behind someone and losing ground - unless it's Massa well in front and then the 2 McLarens... then the lead one will pit first to give the other a lap in clean air at speed.

I'd say the Ferraris are about 3 laps better (Massa pitting before Kimi) than the McLarens.

Alonso will pit between them as well as Trulli, Kubica & Webber.

DC is the heaviest - probably around 7 laps after the first McLaren while Nick will be in a lap or 2 before him.

DC used all his options to get into Q3 :P

Had no option then but to do a heavier strategy.

Sounds like Kimi made a mistake, so he may be only 1 lap heavier than Massa.

I don't think Kimi's more than a lap heavier than Massa, maybe two.

This is Massa's race to lose.

It will be interesting to see how the Maccas fare tomorrow. I suspect they be a bit on the light side, to try and shake the Ferraris up. Interesting to hear than Lewis said it was his decision to use the hard tyres for his last lap... the way the ITV nitwits were braying on you'd think that Mclaren had a gun to his head.

Kimi Raikkonen admitted to mistakes on his final qualifying lap after ending up fourth on the Istanbul grid, but is optimistic that he can still challenge for victory in the race.

I thought Alonso briefly held him up?

Was a good job by Lewis to get a decent laptime in with all that oversteer, and on the harder tyres. Raikkonen needs to get past both McLarens off the startline or he can say goodbye to any chance of a win this weekend. Red Bull have looked good all weekend, but can it translate into race pace? Moreover, which midfield runner will have the most difficulty overtaking DC? :P

One thing I noticed is that both Hondas looked woefully inconsistent throughout qualifying - one lap they were two or three seconds off the pace, the next they were mixing it up with the midfield runners. Maybe they are trying to fill the void created by Super Aguri by doing half their laps at typical SA pace?

He should get Lewis at the start, and could pass Hekki with in a few laps. The tv guy here commented that both Ferrari drivers were very close to 200 mph on the straight, some 4 mph faster than the next fastest driver.

Without a DNF should be a Ferrari 1-2.
