Could this be a way back?

As football fans will know, Administration is a very nice place to be in :P

Super Aguri have gone into administration after a team of corporate recovery partners was appointed to seek a buyer for the operation.

The team's principal Aguri Suzuki announced on Tuesday that Super Aguri had withdrawn from the 2008 Formula One World Championship, after an 11th-hour bid by Germany's Wiegl Group to save the team failed.

The administrators hope to sell the outfit as a single entity, to a party that is looking to launch an F1, or other motorsport, operation, and claim to have already received several expressions of interest.

Super Aguri F1 employed 90 staff from their base at Langley in Oxfordshire, including drivers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson.

In a statement, joint administrator Philip Long said: "This provides a unique opportunity to get into high-level motorsport without having to build an operation from scratch. In terms of capability, a new team could easily be up and running for the 2009 season.

"Virtually everything is in place including the people, the technical expertise, the premises, and testing facilities. A new team could walk in and take over a fully operational unit from day one and I'm pleased that there has already been significant interest."

News of the team's demise was received in Japan today by protestors carrying Super Aguri flags gathering outside Honda's headquarters in Aoyama, demonstrating against the manufacturer's refusal to continue to support the outfit, and their hero Sato.

as things stand at the moment whoever wants to get into F1, it's probably better to but STR than SA. The clincher in any deal with SA depends on how much is owed to Honda and when they want it paid back, immediately or some time later

STR are based at Minardi's old Faenza factory and therefore have at least some of the equipment necessary for constructing a car. Super Aguri don't. With customer cars on the way out (<yahoo>), buying up Super Aguri isn't going to look like a good proposition for any prospective F1 team unless they come armed with massive investment for building their own car.

I suppose the biggest issue with purchasing the assets of the SA team would be the huge financial debt they allegedly owe Honda. Presumably if anyone wanted to buy their way into F1, they would have to do so via the parent company.

If they did, what would they get? Technically, the chassis/gearbox/engine etc are Honda, so presumably they would all be retained or destroyed as Honda see fit. Would it be easier to start from scratch? The biggest question would be, would anyone even want to?

Simple answer is no one. People like Stoddy will express an interest, but the simple answer is he or any other privateer can't afford it.
If anyone is daft enough to buy SA all they get is a couple of grid slots, nothing else.
And if they keep the existing 90 or so staff an immediate salary bill of around GBP 250.000.00 a month plus all of the expenses of running the factory.
That as a business proposition is absolutely ludicrous, and any organisation with anything approaching those resources would never consider such an investment
