First Prodrive, now Super Aguri. Next stop STR in Max's massive customer cars miscalculation. |

Quite right. In "Max world": 1. Increasing overtaking = introducing rules which prevent it 2. Reducing cost of running a team = introducing rules which increase costs 3. Increasing size of grid = reducing number of competing organizations 4. Improving the spectacle = visiting knocking shops.

What miscalculation? Customer cars are not permitted. End of story. |

To be fair I don't think it was Max's miscalculation. The FIA were set to allow customer cars but failure to agree a a new Concorde agreement left that plan in tatters. So far as I understand it the new Concorde agreement would have specifically allowed customer cars - without it the FIA were bound by the terms of the existing agreement (even though it had expired) and found themselves facing a legal challenge from teams like Williams and Force India who rightly feared for their futures. It was reported in Autosport some time ago that Max told Frank Williams that it was time to sell out as William's business model was now obsolete. So while customer cars may have saved Aguri it may well have cost F1 other teams. I think Max's real failing is that none of the measures introduced in the name of cost saving have really saved any costs and changing the regulations virtually every season does not help the small teams close the gap to the bigger, better funded teams who can react to change better. |

I find it difficult to believe that men like David Richards and Dietrich Mateschitz would have bothered to embark on something like this if they did not have assurances that it woudl be legal to follow the customer cars route. Perhaps they were guilty of not waiting until it was 100% signed and sealed but I maintain it was a Max and FIA miscalculation to assume that Frank Williams and Colin Kolles were just going to roll over and die. Super Aguri were destroyed mainly by the failure of SS United to pay up of course, but they too had no long term future either. |

Well, Honda have done it. I feel very sorry for all the staff that have had their livelyhood stolen. OK, they will find other jobs in the paddock, but it will take some time. It is a cruel thing to creat a team then abandon them before they have found their feet to operate along. On the customer car issue, SA entered F1 prior to the proposed introduction of the customer cars rule and should have been equiped to manufacture their own cars (may be with a little help from Honda). I do think that the customer car slip up was scandalous. The rule should have been proposed after consultation with all the teams and before the tendering of the 12th team slot. Unfortunately, this mismanagement of the rules has cost F1 2 teams. |

I didn't see anyone praising Honda for bringing another F1 team into existence but everyone is quick to criticise them. If Honda are paying then the team was Honda's not Super Aguri. Figure it out for yourself. If Super Aguri wanted to truly own the team and succeed he was going to have to find the means sooner or later. When SA succeeded it was well done SA, but when they failed it was damn you Honda! |

I have to agree with this. It's sad to see the grid shrink but really will the sport miss a team than purely runs someone elses car. I doubt it. |

That's not really my point. I my feeling is that, if honda were going to creat a "B-team", like they did, they shouldn't leave it in the lurch when things don't suit them. If it was only going to be a temporary arrangement, they should have made it clear from the start. I'm sure they weren't complaining too much about the additional testing data they were getting. My concern is for the poor b*st*rds that have lost their jobs from this not the bosses that have cash to spare. After all, these men and women have families to feed. |

Those poor bastards wouldn't have had a job in the first place if it wasn't for Honda. They knew sooner or later that they would have to stand on their own two feet. |
