"The only things JV ever had difficulty with in his F1 career was not pissing away any lingering respect gained from his fairly gifted first couple of seasons, keeping his flapping canuck mouth shut and leveraging some humility into his tiny over-hairstyled head."

What does that have to do with his driving ability? <think>

JV was a good driver. When you look at the crowd from indy car Champcar IRL that have tryed and failed Himself and JPM are the only ones that have had some systained success. However they both seemed to go of the boil very quickly. There is a lot of unwarrented criticisum of both JV and JPM in my opinion.

I agree. The only poor years JV had were 2003 and 2005. Before that he was BAR's top point scorer and very loyal to them. Bernie wanted him to go to Toyota but he chose to stay at BAR.

Bearing in mind that Bourdais was utterly dominant over there and finds himself in just a Toro Rosso

Which ran in a genuine fourth place in Aus until it blew up.....

And look at its results since then. In qualifying it is struggling to get out of the first session, which tells you more about its actual pace.

Anyway, the 'people fell off' is apaprently not a valid reason that Button's win was a fluke... <whistle>

That's because he overtook most of them first including a rather well known multiple WDC winner. He was running second when the fastest car of the season failed to finish.

Retirements are a valid reason for position anyway. Retirement often means that either you are not good enought to handle the conditions or that your car is not good enought to handle the conditions, yes there are other reasons. Either way if you or your car survives while others fade away does not mean you are gifted that position.

It's a driver AND a team sport.

Danika's F1 dream isn't a PR stunt. That's the racing she followed while living in the UK as a kid. Given she loves racing open-wheel cars, I can see and understand why she wants to race F1.

That said, she's not very good on the road courses. She'd need to do some major work / practice before she could ever hope to race G2's, much less F1.
If that's her real goal, she should work on it via sportscars and then see if she can get AGR to let her race in the A1GPs - the US would love to have her as their representative. But coming from oval-only racing to F1 just won't work - she'd be a constant back-marker, even in a Ferrari or McLaren.

I don't put down JV's ability (although he was never as good as he believed he was), I just don't like the guy. I don't like Alonso either, but he is one of the top 3 drivers currently in F1.

Pretty much agree. I'd really like to see her in AGR's ALMS team for a season.
