No, not an April fool.... very soon negative and neutral feedback will be a thing of the past. So how the hell will we know who are the good guys and who are the rogues? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7228460.stm <edit> Misread.... it's only seemingly SELLERS who can't leave bad feedback. So other sellers won't know who the NPBs are.... great! Not. |

The story states that from May 2008 the ability to leave negative or neutral feedback will be removed from SELLERS... I use eBay and as a Buyer I find it crazy that most sellers will not post positive feedback until you do so first... As a buyer I have to part with my money first (in good faith) so why shouldn't Sellers leave feedback as soon as payment is made, in many cases the sellers require instant PAYMENT... As eBay say themselves "Instances of bad buyers are dwarfed by those of bad sellers" so I think that as a buyer it is a great idea.

I agree with the whole sellers not giving feedback until you have - that really winds me up, especially if I feel inclined not to give them any, or one that they'd dislike. I have a 100% positive ratio, and I'm not willing to lose it due to a retaliatory neg from a dodgy seller. However, I do sometimes sell things, and I'd rather be aware of someone's potential issues through feedback rather than finding out firsthand..... |

I can see the problem for sellers... and you are right that as a seller it is helpful to assess the potential winner of your auction... However as eBay say the problem with bad buyers is relatively small compared to the majority problem of bad sellers... As a seller you are still protected financially in that you do not send the item(s) until you have full payment +p&p... |

I sell quite alot of stuff on ebay and always leave feedback once I've received payment - as far as I'm concened once they've paid me that's their part of the deal over and done with. It annoys me when I get emails from sellers saying' leave me feedback and I'll leave yours' |

I can't remember the last time I left feedback after my seller..... when I first started using eBay I often got feedback before the purchase arrived! |

The feedback system is rubbish anyway. If anything is done that is, to me, taking advantage, I would leave neutral. Except then you would just get a complaint. Things like... 1. Postage and packaging way over what it should be 2. people that force you to pay postal insurance without saying so 3. people that say they will post first class but then you get it second class 4. people that use eBay uk but can't speak english 5. people that take forever to reply to any communication you send 6. people that send stuff out about 2 weeks after they said they would Often I don't leave feedback. |

1. Read the listing, and if the postage is steep, don't buy it, or bid accordingly! 2. Read the listing. 3. Very rare, had it once, and they sent the differnce back to me first class. 4. Read the listing, it's usually obvious ! 5. Fairly uncommon, but suggesting you'll report them usually works! 6. Also very rare, but again 5 works quite well. The last crappy trade I had was for a couple of scratched lens filters. Took two attempts to get a reply, but finally they responded, found the rest of their stock was similarly affected and refunded me the money. Still, if you buy for £1 what would cost anything up to £20 in the high street, you pays your money and takes your choice.... |
