Firstly, I agree with the complaint that this may introduce flooding elsewhere, not to mention the impact on the local wildlife, but surely after all the floods we've had recently, of towns built on, er, floodplains, they'd be bloody stupid to build houses for 16000 people on another one? Have they learned nothing? Floodplains flood, and there's no way anyone ever buying these houses wuld get affordable insurance, if any whatsoever!

<doh>

Back in the olden days it is understandable building on a flood plain as it was close to the local water supply and the soil is better for growing crops, but in this day and age it is just not smart. Water is delivered straight to your home by the theiving gitts called the water board and so is food if you shop online. So do the smart thing and live on top of a hill.

As far as I'm concerned this is a great idea - as long as they only promise to sell the houses to the greedy barstewards they call "buy-to-letters" - leaving decent housing up for grabs for the people who want to buy a house and then actually live in it!

Without buy to let, there would be no houses to rent so where would people who can't or don't want to buy a house live? Remember, not everyone can afford to own their own home.
