Whitby Gazette report that the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will NOT be running their Thomas the Tank Engine fun weekend this year due to the owners of Thomas placing "extreme" and "onerous" conditions on the Railway.

It's madness - EVERYONE who works at the Railway will have to undergo CRB checks. So NYMR have told the owners of Thomas that they are not willing to accept those conditions.

It's sad for the children who love to go and ride on Thomas but quite frankly, I don't blame the Railway one bit.

Guess what, my railway isn't for exactly the same reasons, which I'm sure I mentioned a while back. They have also demanded that they get 20% of gate receipts, and that all characters like Sir Topham Hat/The Fat Controller are to be supplied by approved agencies.

Needless to say, it hasn't gone down very well anywhere....

This Saturday, The Sun also reportedthis story from the NYMR, who have done exactly as we did - canned Thomas for the year, and decided to have a 'family fun' weekend instead. Of course, being this great newspaper, the article was titled 'Prat Controllers Derail Tohmas' and the picture of Thomas was actually taken at the Mid Hants Railway which is almost as far South from the North York Moors Railway as you can get!

Today's Bournemouth Echo is reporting the same story from the Swanage Railway.

Do you know if any railways have agreed to theses terms?

It looks like they're doing more than just pricing themselves out of the market. Anyone would think they really dont want to send Thomas around the country anymore <think>

I've no doubt some will, but it depends on how much money they've made from previous events. The last few haven't been massively successful for us due to the weather, and HIT licencing nearby Drusilla's Park to have a permenant Thomas attraction...

Sun article: (my comment is pending - I pointed out that their picture is geographically incorrect for the article)
