Asian and European share indexes have continued to fall sharply on Tuesday amid fears of a recession in the US leading to a global economic slowdown.

MARKET DATA - 09:30 UK
FTSE 100 5534.1 down -44.10
Dax 6628.8 down -161.43
Cac 40 4718.3 down -26.11
Dow Jones 12099.3 down -59.91
Nasdaq 2340.0 down -6.88

So, are we heading for recession?

As long as our front office make the right calls on the stock they choose, the market going down is at least as good as it going up for our business.....

EVERYDAY IN THE NEWS WE ARE TOLD HOW BAD ITS GOING TO GET.

THE PRESS HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE PRIME MINISTER

Repeat after me: The stock market is a crapshoot!

The Market is a victim of our own greed and stupidity right now and it probably won't get better for a bit. But it will get better, and we will get stupid again. I just heard a respected analyst say that the 3/4 point interest cut is exactly what we needed and asked for; but prices were dropping because the investors were worried that the Fed might have used up all of it's tools by dropping the interest so much in one move. No matter what happens some doofus is going to get on a soap box and claim that he knows "what it really means".

I'm down about 9% over the last two months and I'm buying stocks in a bet that the market will improve. I may lose the money for a while but I have not ended a year with a loss in 20 years so I'm ahead of the curve.

I like it when the press goes off about theoretical recession fears. Stupid people sell low and I can buy stocks at below-normal price -- especially ones that pay dividends :D

The great part about recession news is that by the time the data is collected and analyzed, we're usually already out of the recession. So people end up freaking out about something that came and went and they never even noticed when it happened.

We will not go on forever without a recession at some point, just hopefully avoid a full depression.
When it does happen as before it will hit so fast most won't react in time. I don't want one and don't want to predict when we get one, but no matter how you play it history does repeat itself.
