An international passenger plane has crash landed short of the runway at Heathrow Airport.

Passengers escaped down the emergency chutes after British Airways flight BA38 from Beijing came down.

Six ambulances were sent to the scene and three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

But a plane is still statistically the safest way to travel.

Right on. I have flown on planes since before I was born, and rather enjoy it.

The very fact that a plans can have a major failure and still land is a testament to planes and the pilots.

I've flown all my life and I see no reason not to travel by plane. The science of flight is sound and has been established for over a century, modern planes are full of safety features and modern flying practice is well regulated. Also, statistically speaking, you could fly on a plane every day of your life and not be involved in a major air crash.

And you are more likely to die driving to the airport than in a plane. <thumbsup>

I'm sure I remember on QI Stephen Fry saying that nobody actually knows for sure how planes fly. Apparently there are 5 theories but nobody knows which, if any of them are correct <think>
