A four-year-old video of Tom Cruise talking about his Scientology beliefs has been leaked onto the internet

In the video, which features the Mission Impossible theme, he says a Scientologist driving past an accident is "the only one who can really help".

Well, seeing as the L Ron Hubbard foundation donated a six-figure sum to the railway I volunteer on recently, I'll cut them a little slack.... but only a bit....!

He's that crazy sort of scary. After listening to him, you feel that he really needs some help.

As for what he says, if he wants to believe the basics of that, okay, but the idea he has about non-believers makes him/them scarier than any other non-violent fundamentalist group. Very much a "us vs. them" sort of thing.

Well said. <clap> <clap>

Ole' crazy Tom there is in many ways just as bad as the right wing fundamantalists. I don't have a problem with people having religious beleifs, in actually it is probably a good thing, but what pisses me off (and probably a lot of others) is when people use their religion as a reson to hurt others. I actually had onr girl once tell me I was going to hell because I was living with my then girlfriend (now wife). I politely requested that she fornicate with herself and join us there.

Rob, I should probably cut in at this point and state that the Christian 'fundementalist' you talked to doesn't understand what it means to be a Christian, nor a fundementalist Christian.

In fact, if she did a bit of reading up in the New Testament she'd realise that since she too has, no doubt, committed many sins in her life she would be a hypocrite if she denounced you and told you you were going to hell. Jesus specifically preaches against such hypocrisy at numerous points in the gospels. I should also mention that the idea of universal forgiveness means that you aren't going to hell anyway, not that I guess you were really worried about that.

Fundementalism is also not to be confused with extremism. Fundementalism is a desire to abide by the original ideals of the said religion, whereas extremism is, for example, taking the passage 'If you live by the sword, you'll die by the sword' out of context to justify conflict.
