Very sad news again but why do people need these types of dogs (as pets <blink> ) ? <think>

a tragedy indeed. a tragedy that a teenage mother and the father did not know bout rottweilers. in fact they did not know bout dogs at all.
thats not a regional thing but seems to happen world wide. My dad and I we both grew up around dogs. the dogs we grew up with even defended us against other parents so how this crap goes together if the dog wasnt mistreated ?

People can have pretty much what they like as pets. However, any dogs and small kids should not be mixed, especially dogs that require extreme strength to restrain should they become disobedient. Having said said, disobedience comes from poor training and poor owners.

Jeez Norbs, this is seriously worrying now. I agree with you YET AGAIN. <yikes>

In the wrong hands with no training ANY dog is dangerous to a small child.

The trouble is that chavs like big, masculine dogs, and for chavs, discipline is a foriegn concept. Quite frankly, the family (mother, father, aunt etc) sound like a bunch of kids anyway, so any idiot selling them a Rottweiler ought to be locked up with the parents for causing death by serious neglect.

People don't. There was some woman barking on on BBC news yesterday about how people need to tread carefully around dogs, but what she forgot to say is that any 'pet' that is this dangerous should be put down. Presumably, people get dogs without being told about how dangerous they are.

So after, re-reading the article, a *seven* year old kid was left in charge of a year-old baby and took it to pet a dog the size of the small adult, while the supposed person looking after these two and a six year old kid, herself a 16 year-old was upstairs.

What sort of brainless idiots leave:

a - a 16 year old in charge of a toddler *and* two young kids
b - a 10 stone dog under the care of a 16 year old girl who is probably smaller than said dog
c - a 10 stone dog in the same house as a toddler
d- the whole f**king lot under one roof all at the same time!!

Once more it appears chavs prove Darwin right.....

I'd say, what sort of idiots get a 10 stone dog as a pet? 10 stone dogs might be suitable for guarding a property, but not as pets. Something should be done about that first.

unfortunately cpg, they are gorgeous cuddly little puppies and folks just don't realise to what size they will grow!

One of my friends had a rottie, as a pup he used to sit on your feet as a comfort thang, unfortunately, he never got out of the habit! It was quite unnerving to have a 10 st rottie run up to greet you and then try to sit on your feet as you stroked his head!

And until the forces of evolution provide Rottweilers with a little tag around their necks stating "WARNING: These cute little puppies will grow into big dangerous nasty bastards," the problems will continue.

Norbert dear, you are turning into a grumpy old woman. Those are the very same words I used myself.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

But are they told? I'd imagine a lot of the problems happen because the owners are not aware of just how dangerous some breeds of dog can be until this sort of thing happens. It's not like with getting a kitten, I don't think I have heard of a domestic cat mauling a child to death...

I don't see any need for such huge dogs to be bred with the intention of them being given to other people as pets. There are far too many stories such as this one, and it could be stopped with some effort.

Actually no. They only MAY turn into big dangerous etc.....

Years ago, a friend of mine had a Rottweiler. It was the softest, dopiest and most docile of dogs I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. It was also very well trained.

Dogs are not a problem. It's the owners who don't understand that dogs should be trained that are the problem.

If you're not responsible at 16, when are you?

Would an adult be able to stop a dog that weighs as much as themselves, from mauling the child? I know that I wouldn't be able to.

Even the most docile dogs with the worlds best owners can snap and attack a person well known to them.
