Genius? Well getting the BBC to pay her big bucks for the tripe she produces does take some degree of genius i suppose. Is it beyond our current generation of 'comedians' to think of some funny material, that doesn't involve vomit, chavs, swearing, toilets or nastiness for the sake of it? Dare i say Morecombe and Wise didn't always raise a laugh, but when they did it was very funny and material had none of the the above, can it be possible to update old school humor for a laugh?

Back in the day we weren't such a PC nation so swearing and insult comedy did not have as much shock value. Nowadays, if you say anything vaguely sexist, racist or otherwise offensive the audience is like 'I can't belive they just said that' so in a way it's funny. I don't like the Catherine Tate show that much, so hopefully these complaints will lead to some sort of action being taken. |

I do think that Catherine Tate is a comedy genius, and her Nan character a masterpiece. Not having seen the TV programme concerned I cannot comment on it. It does seem to me from a section of the article quoted above that satire is probably not very well understood by those making the complaints. |

I think she's total and utter tripe. Her entire repertoire seems to consist entirely of the word f**k, rather like Jo Bland, sorry Brand, makes hers out of being fat and eating food. She's about as funny as Benazir Bhutto being blown up or that kid getting killed on her quad bike. However, to all those who have whined about the show being offensive: 1. It was shown 1 1/2 hours after the watershed. 2. It was introduced stating that it contained 'very strong language'. 3. There are three to hundreds of other channels to watch. 4. You didn't have to watch it. 5. Have you nothing better to do? |

I have never found Catherine Tate funny and how she can be described as genius, I don't know. Comedy that just tries to raise laughs b being just plain offensive doesn't deserve to be on TV. I'm not against anti-PC comedy, in fact much of it is very funny, I was always a big fan of Spiting Image, but just going out and swearing or being offensive doesn't make it a joke. My only issue with this show is, how the hell does such an untalented bag of crap get on TV in the first place. I mean, even Little Britain is funnier and they do exactly the same jokes every show. |

Catherine Tate Show is just an extremely poor imitation of Little Britain. I don't class someone swearing non-stop as being comedy. If any of you know of Roy 'Chubby' Brown, he seems to be popular around here, for no other reason than he just spends 90 minutes swearing, and being nauseatingly racist. And...if Catherine Tate is a comedy genius, how would they describe the countless other comedians who have been associated with the BBC? Saying that about her should prompt more complaints! |

I think the case of Chubby Brown is pretty much down to taste. I mean, he can take the piss out of himself, though once you've seen one of heis shows, you've seen them all. Billy Connelly isn't above being offensive in his routines, but he uses it in context, instead of just being plain rude, and is funny even though he uses swearing and some obscenity. |

Well yes...I don't think I laughed at all when I was forced to watch a Chubby Brown dvd... It's the mindless 'being rude' which I mean. Why does a joke need a 'f***ing' every 4 or 5 words? It doesn't! |

I went to see one of his shows when he was in Nottingham, i have not been so bored during a comedy show. As you say, his material is delivered with only f this f that and when he got his plant in the audience to shout YES when he asked if there were any asylum seekers in the audience he comes out with the ssooooo funny "well F off back to where you came from" Seeing the type of audience who was reveling in this crap speaks volumes for why he makes money from comedy. |

Billy Connolly *is* a comedian who can swear, in context, be offensive, yet at the same time be utter genius throughout. If anyone has never gone to see him live, then do. You'll laugh until it hurts. And he's quite right with one of his sketches... "I went to see Billy Connolly last week" "Oh yeah, any good?" "It was great. I laughed, and I laughed and...." "What jokes did he tell?" "Can't remember!" So true.... we spent so much time in hysterics that often you'd miss part of the next sketch as a result. Pure class, especially the joke about the backfiring van.... Best £29 I ever spent. Oh, and £15 on the tshirt, which I'm, wearing now. |
