Sorry, but am I the only person that thinks they've gone after the wrong person(s) here? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7161165.stm What sort of twat lets their two kids aged 9 and 7 out on a real road on quads? If I was the local magistrate, the parents would be in clink on charges of manslaughter by neglect. It has been suggested that the kids were on the road following their parent's car so that they could see where they were going. Sorry, no sympathy for the parents from me, if they were that stupid then quite frankly they don't deserve kids in the first place. I feel sorry for the poor women whose car the girl swerved into after losing control. She was released without charge after a negative drugs and alcohol test, but most of the papers seem to be trying to imply it's her fault! |

The line : "Some manufacturers make smaller quad bikes with automatic transmissions for children. It is illegal to ride such machines on public roads without a licence and insurance" should point the finger of blame very clearly. |

You'd have thought so, wouldn't you. But this is blame society we live in, so it's probably the fault of the person who laid the road! |

However... if she had simply ploughed 2 tons of range rover into a clearly visible object, then something's wrong there, even if the said object shouldn't have been there. Methinks that if this is so and she was not taking evasives she should be fined for dangerous driving, the quads seized and destroyed, and the remaining rider punished for driving with no licence or isnurance. Like THAT's going to happen. |

Clearly visible, quadbike and 7pm in winter don't really sit too well together. They were following the parent's car because they couldn't see on their own, which implies that whatever lights the quads were fitted with were, erm, modest to say the least.... |

Yet again, I find myself agreeing whole heartedly with Norbert. (which is worrying). It's a tragedy that this little girl died, but it was because of her parents' total lack of responsibility. My sympathies too go to the lady whose car the little girl ran into. |

The article implys she was either drunk or stoned, have the police changed their mind in other press releases? A very sad case, though totally illegal that area has a lot of farms and children and quad bikes are regularly seen on the roads and in fields. Madness, as these bikes can reach 40MPH and most 7 year olds fall off normal pedal bikes at that age without much effort. |

For me, this is a clear indication of a lack of responsibility by the parents. I remember a case a few year ago ( it might have even been 10 years ago), where a couple of kids were crossing a busy dual carriageway (it was suspected that the kids were playing "chicken") and a driver hit and killed one of the kids. The driver was withing the 70MPH speed limit and had no chance of avoiding the child, yet he was charged with death by dangerous driving. He was cleared in court when the circumstances of the case came to light, yet the parents of the child still insisted that there was a great miscarriage of justice. This sort of behaviour makes me sick. If someone is killed doing something stupid or irresponsible, then it is their own fault. The blame should not be shifted on to an innocent person just so the parents can feel a sense of retribution. |
