I was beginning to despair a little earlier today when I saw that Radio 1 had seen fit to "edit" The Pogues "Fairytale of New York" in case it upset people. According to This report from the Beeb, they have now relented and the full version will continue to be played. |

The FAGGOTS! But seriously, the song has been played in it's oiginal state for many years, so what makes it different now? Radio 1 are a bunch of plonkers anyway. They are the channel that refuses to play comeback singles for fear of looking "uncool", like the Beatles come back single in the 90s, though I did agree with them getting rid of Cliff Richards. |

I have never liked this song! But why suddenly change the policy? |

Because the BBC is runby the Mary Whitehouse PC brigade that think they are doing good when, really, they are just pissing everyone off. |

It's a great song, provided you have a sense of humour! I said to one of my colleagues earlier today that by editing it, Radio 1 have just ensured that everyone goes out and buys the original version, thus ensuring it reaches number 1 for Christmas. Perhaps Radio 1 realised their mistake and that's why they did the U-turn? |

Jasper Carrott sketch- "best thing that can happen to a record is for it to be banned by the BBC" One therefore assumes that the 2nd best thing is to have the BBC edit a record. |

Yep - remember when they banned Frankie Goes to Hollywood? It went straight to number 1. |

I cannot emphasise how emotional I will be if it goes to no. 1 for Christmas. Despite the tone of the lyrics, this song has huge sentimental value to me, and it would be a rather poetic end to a very strange year. |
