These phone conversations paint a pretty poor picture of us Cambridgeshirians! (And the Homebase in Huntingdon is well easy to find!) |

I know you weren't having a dig! I don't know what the demonym (posh word for 11pm on a Friday night, eh?) for somebody from Cambridgeshire, but I know people from Cambridge itself are called "Cantabridgians" (although that term may be reserved for University people only). Me, I live outside of Cambridge, in the Fens, and hence I am referred to as a Fennie, Fen Boy or "one of Them". On a somewhat related note, from experience, I can say that Cambridgeshire Police are crap. |

Let's see, I agree that those folks are stupid wherever they are from. I think that the world would consider those from Cardiff, British. And those from Belfast, British. And those from Glascow, British. And those Lancastrians as British, those of the red rose (as well as those other losers, those of the white rose). And, we would consider those from every freaking county in the empire to be British, regardless of what you Englishmen think. The UK is an extremely small portion of the globe's land mass, and has an extremely small population as a percentage of the globe's total, and yet in spite of that, you guys have found a way to prejudice yourselves againt one another as if the war of roses was still being fought against your ancestors' foes as opposed to the crushing immigrant population and the rest of the world. I find it funny that a thread about idiot calls becomes a thread about which region is the stupidest! However evidence suggests that they are all stupid. lol. |

I don't normally disagree with you Flood, but the link was about inappropriate 999 emergency calls in Cambridgeshire. From that its obvious there will be some banter between regions. This "extremely small portion of the globe's land mass" has its rivalries between towns cities etc in the same way as every other land mass in the world. The main exception between us and some other land masses, be they large or small, when our fellow Britons are in distress we all band together and help out immediately. New Orleans in 2005 shows me thats a lesson America could learn and adopt!. |

Um, Steel....wasn't it YOU who started a thread asking "Should we sub the uninsured flood victims?" after the floods in the UK this summer, and arguing that we shouldn't? Sounds like a funny idea of banding together to me. |

We're a very territorial people, Flood! Think of it as a load of opposing tribes opposing each other. |

emergency services were acting in those areas immediately, not leaving victims for many days to die until the bad press got a reaction. The thread i started is below. It shows that the ones deemed most vulnerable in the UK WILL get financial support and the post asks if we should expand this to the uninsured. i.e. the ones who are not officially on the bread line but don't insure their properties. Contrast this to New Orleans were they still run money spinning bus trips to the areas devastated by the flood for the tourists to gawp and take the pi$$ out of. http://z10.invisionfree.com/The_Pit_Lane/i...&p=10446593&st=

Steel, you are right that the whole New Orleans flood reaction was a disgrace. I have lived it for 2 years. 150,000 homes destroyed, 1 million people displaced, 2000 killed. But our 300,000,000 people didn't focus on local, state, regional, or national differences. The people didn't fail us. Most of the help we have gotten came from private resources. |
