I can understand reluctance to accept the rising costs but I can't help but think that as every Olympic city has gone way over budget after they won their bid... I should not be a surprise to find London 2012 has followed the same pattern.

I guess if you are not willing to pay for it then don't bid for it... <thumbsup>

I annoys me that, when the bid was put in, the estimators got it so wrong. Look at Wembley, that went well over budget and was over a year late. <grrr>

THE Millennium Dome <dunce>

The goverment get a VERY GOOD Quote but once builting starts the companies take the sh**

Its about time this country got a bloo** estimate and made them stick to it.

The FARCE of a Scottish Holyrood Parliament building costs 500,000 to maintain a year on TAX PAYERS MONEY as the roof leaks and the windows needs cleaned <dunce> <grrr>

The point is all this could have been and probably was predicted long before the bid was made, (i.e. that it would go over budget, every other Olympic build has)

London still bid and won.... so this news it is going to cost more is actually no news.

Which makes you wonder why the government asssessors haven't learned their lesson. If the bid looks too good to be true, then it usually is. Also, what ever happened top having an independant assessment of the bids.

Was a waste of time bidding for the Games. The football World Cup will (hopefully!) be a lot more relevant.

spoken like a true footy fan... it should be good if they get it... although what relevance has to do with it I am not sure.

However, personally I'd pick the Olympics over Football (I admit I'm not the biggest football fan)

There is no doubt that the Olympics is a very prestegious event but it dismays me that the whole financing process is based on lies. If they were honest about the cost in the first place, announcements like this wouldn't be necessary.

In defence of the Footy WC, if it were to come to England or Britain as a whole, the stadiums are already built and are excellent facilities.

True, but the NHS and homeless aren't sexy enough for the governments spin doctors.

More relevant because more people would care. I don't see how hosting the Olympics is going to benefit anyone other than people who want to go and see it, and people who are local enough to use any facilities in the future.

The olympics is just as big if not bigger than the world cup and has and will generate alot of new jobs. The olympics will bring alot more people to the country than the world cup and they will be a dammed site better behaved. I can't remeber the last time an England fan was arrest for being a hooligan at the olympics.

Not sure about as big as the world cup, the 2006 olympics had 5.9bill viewers in total while the 2004 olympics drew just under 4 bill.
