You really want me to add rally drivers to my total?

That would be +1 then. Walter Rohrl. 1980 something at the Middleton St George Overnight stop.

I was having dinner at a posh hotel (near what was then known as Teesside Airport) with a friend when Walter and his crew turned up at the next table. He'd sprained his wrist during one of the stages and demanded that the waitress fetch him an ice bucket full of ice. She did. Walter then proceeded to fill the posh hotel's damask napkins with ice cubes to wrap round his injured wrist.

The "posh" clients tutted at his behaviour. I asked him where he'd received his injury. His answer - "somehwere on the last stage I think".

Lovely chap.

Heh - A crew last year asked me where the nearest massage palour was. He'd hurt his back after a particularly rough landing and had sore shoulders

I used to be an autograph hunter when I was a kid so got quite a few. I'd need to check my book but off the top of my head -

Murray Walker
Ron Dennis
Keke Rosberg
Froilian Gonzalez (spelling?!)
Alex Zanardi
Alex Wurz
Giancarlo Fisichella
Juan Pablo Montoya
Stirling Moss
Derek Bell
John Watson
Vincenzo Sospiri
David Coulthard

I used to spend a lot of time milling around the pits at DTM/ITC/Goodwood/BTCC/Champ Cars, etc so loads of other heroes like Dario, Bernd Schneider, Bernd Maylander (the best driver in F1 these days?!), Nick Mason, etc.

I'll try dig out my books and get some more names for you! Also saw Luca Badoer in Maranello this year looking well cool!

Resurrecting an old thread here!

I've met 3 F1 drivers:

Juan Pablo Montoya (Spanish GP 2003) - signature session at the BMW Williams stand after Saturday qualifying...

Nigel Mansell (BTCC at Knockhill 2006) - his sons were driving in the Formula BMW UK support race...

Damon Hill (BTCC at Knockhill 2008) - his son was driving in the Ginetta Junior Championship support race...

As for other motorsport related personalities, I've also met:

Murray Walker (Spanish GP 1999) - met whilst having a walk about behind the stands between practice sessions...

Colin McRae (BTCC at Knockhill 2006) - who was guest driving in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB support race...

WW is fine as far as I know, although I haven't spoken to her for a while, but she sadly resigned from our admin team some time ago and last I heard was spending a large proportion of her time digging around in her family tree!
